How big is the record?

Canada

Last night Mike Green of the Washington Capitals broke the NHL record for most consecutive games with a goal by a defenceman. Scoring at least one goal in his 8th straight game he now sits alone in the record books, breaking a 25 year old record. Sounds pretty good to me. But there is little to no coverage of this anywhere, even up here in Canada where hockey is spoken about on the daily news let alone the seemingly hundreds sports stations available. CBC broke into the game to show the goal and P.J. Stock attempted to make a big deal out of it but it seemed like nobody was buying it. Personally I think this is a huge accomplishment especially for such a young player and he can continue to add to this record during their game today as well. What do you think of the record? Does it not at least deserve some attention?

Call me bias because he plays for my home team but I think it was great. But I am not surprised that it didn't get all the press ere. Hockey isn't even a second thought. ESPN will report scores but little else.

I'm surprised it didn't get a little more coverage in your area as well. Being a home team and all I thought they would be right into recognizing and celebrating such an accomplishment. Hopefully they give you a little more coverage through the Caps' deep playoff run this year. Should be some exciting hockey taking place in Washington down the stretch and into the post season.

Thanks for the best response. Unfortunately, Washington Caps fans are excited and my local NBC does mention the Caps but it still isn't the main news story.

yeah im a big hockey fan and did not even hear about this except from you now i would think anytime you break a record even if its not a superstar record you should get some notoriety for it can you tell me whos record he broke i would agree with you that it should get alot of attention from any network that covers the nhl but since espn stopped having the nhl games the only time they talk about hockey is a little bitty segment where they will have barry melrose come on anybody surprised he didnt last the year as TB coach

Mike O'Connell originally held the record and he had set it during the 1983-84 season. And I agree with you about TB...how dumb is it for them to be paying three nhl coaches right now. Torts, Melrose and the guy they have now. At least with today's announcement out of NY, Torts is off Tampa's books but still...that is one poorly run hockey franchise at the moment... Thanks for the response and happy myLotting!

Meh, guess didn't register with me as being a huge deal. Keep the puck, nice story to tell, but, ya know, just not something to get worked up over. I guess im kinda in the minority and all but streaks arent that important to me. Plus remember pre Orr scoring by a d-man wasnt expected and to a point wasnt encouraged. wonder how many may have missed out... plus my little hit at Green, if only he could defend as well as he shoots...
