Who out there likes auctions? I love them. My hubby took me to one on Valentine's Day. Wasn't that sweet of him? Sometimes things go cheap, other times they're outrageous. But it's fun! I love bringing home stuff I got cheap. Even though I've spent the last 2 days washing all the sheets and pillowcases I got, it was still fun getting them cheap!! And a bench for $5! A nice, firm bench that can be adjusted into a table. Lovely find! I can't believe nobody wanted it. How about you? Do you like auctions? What are the bargains you've found at one?

Yes, I'm partial to auctions. I think the problem with some items going to an outrageous price is that collectors are always on the look out for valuable items which will sell. Sometimes we don't know the real value of things which are put up for auction but the collectors and experts do; even so it makes us sad not to be able to bid high enough to secure it. I once found a very old, round coffee table with claw-type legs. I still have it, but it had been revarnished and the value lowered. Since, I've revarnished it again, but it still has its pride of place in the living room, because I love it! Everybody remarks on it and my brother keeps pestering me to sell it to him!!! No way! Brightest Blessings.

It sounds kind of crazy to pay more for something than you would new, but then I supposed it saves travelling further afield to get it and thereby saves in the long run. Thank you... yes, the table gives me great satisfaction. It was very dark to begin with but I've got it back to a lighter colour now. It looked Victorian... I'm not sure but I certainly got a bargain!! :)

These weren't collectors. It was machinery and things to attach. Farmers can be even worse about going high! I only wanted one thing in that area, a cart to pull behind the lawn mower. There was also a bigger cart for behind a 4 wheeler. That would have helped in gathering wood! But they paid more than it would cost for brand new! There was a wringer washer that went high too. That may have been antique collectors. I used a washer like that and it gets clothes so much cleaner than the automatic things nowadays. I liked that. Glad you got your coffee table! It's nice to see something you recovered with your own hands, isn't it? Even if it was a lot of work.

now u are talking my language. i love them. don't go anymore but when i had an antique store i went all the time. you can find alotof things & i have a house full now & really don't have room for anything else. i have stood out in 100 degree weather as well as rain, snow & very cold weather to attend an auction, they are lots' of fun.

Me too. I haven't been able to go in years, what with working 6 days a week. That's why this was so nice. I usually let my hubby do the bidding. He understands the lingo better.

I somehow have never been to an auction. I have only bid for online auctions once in a while. I somehow do not like to use old and second hand stuff, specially clothing which has been used by someone else. The stuff you got, was it used or just old items which were not getting sold? If it is the latter then it is ok.

I've never seen clothing sold at an auction. I can't think it would go well. I don't like shopping for clothes at the best of times. I got an entire box of candles!!! I can't help it. I love candles. It was frigging heavy trying to carry though. The pillowcases seemed almost brand new. Same for the sheets. I don't mind old stuff, if it's in good shape.

Those are great bargains!! I like yard sales too, but they don't usually sell my kind of books. People who read sci-fi tend to keep them. I know I do!
