annjilena, My grandfather would read to me in his chair, by the firepalce while he was smoking his pipe. I don't think that I would have the love of reading as I do today if he hadn't read to me when I was young. My grandmother taught me how to do arts and crafts. I still do them today. She was an artist at heart and some of the things that she did were just beautiful. DCMerkle

hello annjilena i suppose that i hung around more with my Grandma when that i was growing up than i did with my Grandpa. my Grandpa passed away when i was like in the first grade or even kindergarten. but lots of times on the weekends, i would go to visit with my Grandma at her trailer, and she would cook anything that i wanted to eat, pizza, steak, pork chops, chicken you name it. i remember that my Grandma and i used to play card games together and sit up late with each other and listen to music or watch television. my Grandma was game for about anything that i wanted to do when that i spent time with her. my Grandma also taught me how to crochet. i haven't crocheted anything in years. it would probably be a fun activity to crochet a small throw blanket or even a rug. i have very wonderful memories of my Grandma and the things that we used to do together. take care and have a beautiful day today!

When i was 4 or 5, mom left me to work abroad. Granny took over to take care of me. Though mom is responsible for the financial support and comes home every year or so, grandma is the one who had taught me a lot of lessons from life as i grew up. She had always been an inspiration to me and will always be. I could say that she's the one who raised me up to who i am now. I always feel at ease and with Grandmom more than with mom (sigh).

What a lovely, nostalgic discussion, my friend. Thank you! I was the first grandchild to both sets of grandparents, and I stayed at my Mum's parent' home sometimes. I loved it there. They were right out in the middle of the country, had gas lights downstairs and none upstairs. I had to take a candle to light me to bed, and my Grandma used to put a stone water bottle in my bed to warm my feet. She used to take me for lots of walks across the common too. I loved that. That particular Grandpa was great but he didn't play with us or take us anywhere much. However, my Grandpa on my Dad's side, spoiled me rotten. He took me to football matches, to London and Buckingham Palace, as well as Horseguard's Parade, to see the horses and Trafalgar Square to see Nelson's statue and feed the pigeons. He was very keen on woodwork too, and every time I went to visit, he had something new for me... he made me such things as a wooden cart, stilts, roll a penny devices, a marble game, a skipping rope, etc. etc. He also used to take me to the bottom of the garden where he kept chickens, and let me help collect eggs in a basket, and also, pick fruit from the various fruit bushes he had in the garden. I loved spending time with him. He took me on trains to the seaside and you name it, we did it together. My Nan never used to come. She would stay at home and keep house, and when we returned from a day out, she too would have a fruit pie of some sort awaiting us. She also let me into the front room, which was reserved in those days for Sundays and special occasions. In the front room was a piano, belonging to my Uncle... her youngest. She taught me roughly how to play the piano and how to use the pedals to dull the sound. She let me turn the mangle handle when wringing out the washing too, and when the washing was all hung out, my Grandad would hand me a bucket to fill from the water that had been caught, and follow him to the garden to water the plants. Those were the good old days, my friend. Brightest Blessings.

i don't know if it's true that i am my grandfather's favorite because usually, when he comes home from his travels, he always gives us fruits - his grandchildren. most of it are apples, and since i am not much of an apple kid. i decided not to go to him. instead, he came to me and gave me an orange. when i looked up to him, he winked at me. it was one of my favorite memories with my grandpa. he's with the Lord now. as for my grandmom, she always gives me presents on my birthday and christmas. courtesy of them, i know i've enjoyed my childhood well. =)

Hi annjilena! I used to love to spend time with my grandparents! I used to go everywhere with my grandmother when I was very young! She would take my shopping with her to the butcher and he would give me pieces of balogna and then we would go to the grocery store. My grandmother would volunteer at a hospital and she would take me to work with her. She worked in the gift shop and I loved to go there with her. Everyone would fuss over me! I just loved doing anything with her as long as we were together it didn't matter! She was the most special person to me in my life!

My grandmother took me into her home and raised me because my mother passed when I was 12 years old. Things were tough back in those days but she did the best she could and I thank her for that. She is deceased now, gone but not forgotten.

Hi annjilena! The most special thing was that they raised me. My grandfather took me everywhere. He worked on cars and he made me a little stool once out of a steering wheel so I'd have a place to sit and talk to him while he worked on cars. It was cute. It was a steering wheel upside down with a little piece of padded wood for me to sit on. Very sturdy too..lol

Oh, I have such special memories of my grandparents! Both of my grandpas would take us fishing. My dad's mom would sew, crochet, and make crafts for us. She made each of her grandchildren a special teddy bear. After more than 15 years, I still have mine! I have inherited a lot of her crafting supplies since she passed away, and I'm going to carry on her legacy and use those supplies to make things for my brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, etc. Very fond memories indeed!

I loved all the special memories everyone shared. I personally loved my grandparents and treasure all my memories as well. I will never forget when I was 12 or 13 and my grandparents took me fishing. I hooked a guy in the back of the pants with my first throw. It was so funny looking back. I was mortified at the time.

My Grandparents on my dads side were very good people and they tried all they could to help raise me with absolutely no help from my mother or her side. My memories of my Grandpa and Grandma will always remain Great Memories. The only bad thing is they passed away by time they were sixty years old.

I will tell about my grandma first ,when i was a little kid, she used to take me to a lot of places. Like parks, malls, market, and even social gatherings and parties. She use to cook the foods i like to eat or my favorite dishes. Every time she visited our place, she always have a goody for me, be it candy, chocolate, corn on a cob, or dress. She loves me and takes good care of me a lot and that's what i missed a lot from her. I never grow up closed to my grandpa, both on mother and father side since they die early than grandma. But i have seen my grandpa. He was a bass guitar player during his younger times, he has passion for music and growing veggies at the backyard of our house. But at least i was able to see my grandpa on my mother side, not the grandpa i have on my dad's side.
