Why are some people so jealous of another's success?

I got to thinking about this today when my sister-in-law called to tell me she had her house. There was a moment, and I do mean a moment-flash second then my ego wanted to hijack my amigdula and cause me to be angry. I will say that in that split second of thought I smiled at myself for being the observer to what the ego was doing and soon it was sent on its way. However, I've noticed that many people don't watch their thoughts, they believe they are their thoughts. In this, they tend to act out anytime someone around them gains success, is better at something then they are, or perhaps learn a new skill. My thoughts today are why should so many people be so jealous? What does it serve? What does it really get them? Why should they try to bring someone down who has been successful? Why not simply be happy for the other person's success? Just some thoughts today, and I'd love to hear from you about your experiences and thoughts.

Nice discussion Anora! I always feel inspired when I see someone success...I've never understood, why some people refuse to share in the happiness and joy of the people around them.Life is full of hardship. Why not share in the laughter as well? When someone smiles at my success,I know that they are a secure and mature person. Our thoughts can indeed cause us misery.

Nicely said, flame. I think you're right that it shows we are mature and secure when we can be happy in other's success. Anora

yah i can figure what you're talking about... people around you do seems they are unhappy with your success... it's my question also lol :D i've encountered so many people like this and it's like everytime you're there already and meeting your goals they are trying to pull you down. for me my perception on that if someone that i knew is aiming their goals i'll be joining their celebration and be happier, and it serves as an inspiration that by perseverance and hard working we can aim also our personal goals...it such an irritating when someone pulls you down and discourage you from your success...ughh get away all you negative vibes lol :D cheers!:) Godabless!0=)

Thank you for responding. I'm not sure why it is so hard for some to celebrate, it seems like it would be a lot nicer to celebrate then to be nasty about it. Anora

Hi anora, Most of people in this world are not unhappy because of their troubles in life but they are unhappy because of happiness of others. jealousy is a normal human feeling and no one can escape it. But if you direct your jealousy to right channels and think how to get myself to be as good as the achiver then it is good but most of time we try to think how to do something that the achiver also looses the benefits of his hard work. This is also common in humans known as sadistic attitude. And it takes a lot to be happy for someone else , like common sense is not found in common person same way it is also not possible for every common person.

Agrim- Thanks for taking the time to respond. I tend to believe people can over come jealousy and not be jealous at all, but I understand the point your making. I suppose we have to remember that everyone is moving at their own pace on the journey of life, and they may struggle with this. Namaste-Anora

Some people want to have the success that you have. They're jealous because no matter what they do, they end up being losers, and the sad thing for them is that you've achieved the success they've always wanted. SOme people just wanna pull you down and they ended up saying nasty things about you.

Thanks for responding! I think you're right. It seems all we can do is continue to do our best in life and not get caught up with the crabs that try to pull us back into the tank. Thanks again-Anora
