Getting free internet access

Recently, I discussed about mylot mobile version. I thank everyone who responded to that discussion. Now, I want to clarify some points that most members and other internet users seem not to get. Using the internet via mobile phones is not actually free of charge. Mobile phones installed with browsers, can access the internet utilizing WAP (Wireless Application Protocol). The phone will then request permission from the network/mobile company to access the internet. In this point, the mobile company will charge the subscriber necessary fees. Post-paid subscribers will be charged at the end of the month and will be visible in the statement how much time or amount of space they consumed during the previous month and how much they are charged for it. Pre-paid subscribers will be charged accordingly from the credits they still have in their account. Internet service will be cut-off once credit is insufficient. Meanwhile, using mobile phones can still be used to surf the internet, free of charge. This can be possible in wi-fi zones where internet is connection is available. Some wi-fi connections are secured, protected by password, etc. but we can request for permission to use their connection. This is also applicable in laptops and pda's. In our mobile phones, we have to set the connection to the internet by setting the access point to Always ask. I am not familiar with other mobile phone brands and units, but this is how my Nokia E61 is set. Once we start connecting, the phone will then ask how connect or which connection/access point to use. Do not select the name of your network company, select Scan for WLAN for available access points. Have a great day, everyone!

Hi neildc, thanks a lot for sharing such detailed and informative description relevant to the access of free internet connection, though I haven’t read about the discussion “mylot mobile version” before. After reading the content I then come to know it’s not free of charge to use internet via mobile phones. No wonder I husband found that his balance was deducted to a great amount from his credits in his account, just for uploading only a single image of an adorable kitten. He did this after the guy in the phone kiosk had done the required registration. Since then he didn’t want to access any online information using his sonny ericsson mobile phone anymore, as it’s not worth to spend unnecessarily in this way. We might as well use our laptop to access such service in a more effective and economical way. He prefers to use the free wifi service when we are having our evening tea in starbucks coffe or bakery café only. It’s fair for the owners to lock their wifi with passwords to protect their service being used by any unauthorized users. Happy posting and have a nice day.

Hi neildc, it’s fair that we should pay for the network service. We know very well that there is no free lunch served. The ISPs have to make a profit to maintain their service as well. We just hope that the charge is reasonable and fair enough. We have to pay for a glass or a cup of drink even though the outlet where free wifi is available. Nokia 5800 looks really cool for surfing net. But after trying the apple ipod, I find the touch screen feature of the latter device enables it to be more convenient to be used. . It's still a lot to be shared on this topic Thanks for giving the best response and have a nice day!

I think I wasn't confused as I'm a tech person myself. I only use the available Wi-fi networks so that I don't get charged
