I keep debating whether or not we as a nation should switch from privatized health care to socialized medicine. I can see the pros and cons of both, but I can't see how we can deny people help when we have the power and means to help them. I can see why people are skeptical regarding the potential downgrade in quality, but would that really be the case? What do you think?

Well I am in the UK at present where they have socialized medicine and I think it is a disgusting shambles. The hospitals that I have seen are dirty and nasty. Elderly people seem to be pushed to the back of the queue for care to allow those that are working to get in first. Hip replacements - anything up to 2 years or more on a waiting list - a man that has had 4 yeart attacks and needs angioplasty put on a waiting list with and expected admission date 10 months away. These are cases that I know of personally. Just today I talked to a friend - her partner is 83 years old and was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday with a heart rate of 30. He was scheduled to have a pace-maker inserted on Friday - just prior to being taken to surgery for it he was told a woman needed one put in worse than he did so they cancelled his. Now he is hoping to get it done on Tuesday because they don't do them on Mondays. Instead of socialized medicine the USA should look at providing health insurance that people can afford or more financing for medicare and medicaid. Instead of giving ACORN better than $5 billion Obama would have done better giving the money to health care.

We need to socialized health care! I'm sick and tired to see and here about heath insurance going up and up! I got so pissed of this year I dropped my heath insurance! The year before I lowered my coverage to save money! IT didn't! I ended up having to have a hysterctomy! Thanks to trying to save money, I now am paying off $5,000.00 in medical bills! If we want health care reform we need to get hold of our congressmen and senates! They need to get president Obama to reform health care which was one of his promises! I want to go on health insurance and be able to afford it,again! It needs to happen!!

well i live in ontario (canada) and we have socialized healthcare and you are right, it has its pros and cons. you can get basic medical care for free, but wait times can be horrible. to get an mri done, you have to wait up to 6 months!
