why is it called?

i was watching a cooking show and they were cooking venision and I was wondering why it was called venision and not just dear meat??!

the word venison comes from theLAtin word venor (there should be a line over the e)..this means to hunt, or pursue. SO venison can mean the meat of any animal that was hunted...such as deer, elk, etc. I got this info from the wikipedia, typing in venison. If you want to read more on it...Hope that helps!
