slumdog! indian!

hi all, there was a piece of news in the paper yesterday morning about slumdog millionaire and the racial comments that are going on in america aganist the indians. we all know that "slumdog millionaire" the bollywood movie this year has been nominated in 11 categories for Oscars. since everyone is praising the movie for so many good reasons. the movie has claimed quite a few awards this year including the bafta and screen actors guilds awards and a lot more... but the latest controversy with it is people in america are showing at the indians and not hesitating to remark as a "slumdog"... is it fair to call indians this way?or this is just a rumor associated with a well praised movie... what the lottians have to say about it?

There is no authentic hatred or slang being generated from the movie. It is just a phase. You know how "cowabunga" was popular when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were? It's the same phenomenon. People will use anything they hear in pop culture to just fit in. While they are being derogatory, trust me that they would have found some other word to use if they didn't have this one. Once Slumdog Millionaire is no longer in the limelight, expect the name-calling to go with it. (great movie, loved it, btw)
