Book and Movie Similiarities

I read Ted Dekker's "Saint" a couple of weeks ago. It stuck in my head. I just watched the movie, "WANTED" with Angelina Jolie. And realized how very similiar they are! The main character in the book and the movie are both hired as assassins. They both go through grueling training to withstand pain and kill. They both have a female assigned to their training. They both can make bullets curve to hit the desired target. They both do not know who they are. That is pretty much where the similiarities end. The story-linke is somewhat similiar and yet very different. Has anybody read the book and watched the movie? What is your opinion on this? Do you think that maybe the director read the book and adapted from it (or vice versa)? Or is it purely coincidential?
