The all time Filipino discussion. GMA or ABS-CBN?

I'm sure Filipinos in the country have managed to get into this discussion with someone or the other. Filipinos can be very passionate about the channels they watch, usually to a heightened degree. Many a cup of coffee has been shared and many a debate has been started because of the Filipino love for their channels.
I personally prefer ABS-CBN, not because my friends prefer it but because I honestly think they develop their actors to become even better actors. Unfortunately from what I can tell GMA is based mostly on looks and occasionally on acting, but compared to ABS they seem less professional about it most of the time.
I also think that some of the shows are of a low caliber or quality. I do like some of their news programs though I absolutely hate the Mike Enriquez style of news casting.
What do you think are the pros and cons? What channel do you prefer?

I too, prefer ABS-CBN over GMA, simply because. ABS-CBN, for me, is more understandable than GMA is. I don't like watching sitcoms on either station, though; I don't enjoy watching a show that plays with emotions all the time. ABS-CBN has a wider reach, hence it is more preferable by Filipinos here and abroad. Sure, GMA has it free, but it's their loss. ABS-CBN charges roughly Php10,000 for TFC subscribers, and said subscribers are more than willing to pay the price, no matter how steep it sounds--meaning more income for ABS.

I agree with you on the emotions. We seem to have gotten this penchant for all things mushy here lately. From Korean novelas to Japanese. Sometimes it's alright to watch but in general I don't like those types of sitcoms. When I first came to the Philippines I preferred Studio 23 which is managed by ABS anyway. But I think over all ABS is better because of the large audience they cater to. I also don't think that many people would pay for GMA. Then that could be just me.
