i used to eat white bread but now im pretty much have whole wheat breads (except for the odd occasion) wheat bread is a lot healthier for you and it contains fibre (which i don't get enough of) so its helps me in the daily fibre intake LOL so my fellow mylotters, white bread of whole wheat??

I normally eat wholemeal bread as they taste better for me, and I like the rough texture. Yes it has soluble and insoluble fiber too. However all bread products contain an artificial preservative - calcium propionate to prevent growth of molds. This chemical has unconfirmed findings of triggering allergy response in certain individuals, though this ingredient is generally regarded as safe (GRAS). And not to forget that sugar is one of the major component in all bread, though white/wholemeal bread doesn't taste sweet, but the sugar is there for the yeast to ferment the dough. So under the ingredient list, sugar usually is the third ingredient after flour and water. I thought this is important for diabetics to take note also. Besides that there's a certain amount of acrylamide (a cancer-causing chemical) that is produced during the baking process under high heat. Though having said so, it's still safe to consume bread, but I've tried to switch to oats for breakfast.

Wheat definitely. I grew up with a Mom that used to make our bread from scratch every week. I loved that bread. I don't bake bread myself (unless it's the rolls from the frozen section) but I still eat the darker breads, wheat, rye, whole grain etc. The exceptions are usually like hot dog and hamburger buns.

I use a multi grain whole grain bread which has flax in it. It's a heavy bread and so not good for some things.

Definitly white bread. I've tasted wheat bread but I don't like the taste of it. I know that wheat bread is more healthy for you and what not. But white bread is also healthy for you and taste a whole lot better in my opinion.

i can see why some wouldn't like the taste of whole wheat, but if you toast the bread you won't be able to taste a difference so you can always do that if you want to start eating whole wheat

I switched to wheat bread too, I like all different kinds of bread but I'm trying to loose weight and eat healthier. I switch and get sourdough sometimes.

We always buy 100% whole wheat even though neither of us really care for it. Every now and then we buy a loaf of white bread (for things like french toast or monte christos) and it's almost like eating cake because we're so used to whole wheat. It's kinda nice that something as simple as white bread can seem decadent!

Hi Cndn, We use mostly grain breads instead of white breads. My favorite is rye bread and my husbands is wheat bread. Eating the grain bread is a much healthier choice for us and I like a variety. I also like a multi grain bread too. Where ever possible we need to start eating healthier.

you are absolutely right!! wheat bread is healthful than white bread though it is more expensive but it is good for us. We usually buy wheat bread..and yes, it contains fiber that is good for the body.

From health point of view whole wheat bread but from taste point of view white bread. however they say that everything that tastes good may not be good for your health. You can't keep looking at health all the time can you? Some times you have to cater for taste too.

Hi there cndn420 I like wheat bread myself. It is better for you and the bread does not stick to the top of my mouth like white bread. Althought white bread is usually a lot cheaper if I can get wheat bread than that is what I will get because that is what I love. Also I seem to have better bathroom trips when I consume wheat bread too. I believe it is because of the fiber, thanks for starting this post and happy mylotting as well.
