I don't know about anybody else but if I get one more of those 'I need you to get in touch with me so I can give you the money in my estate' scam emails. I am going to lose it! In the past few months, it seems like I get at least twenty a day and there has to be a way to put a stop to this. I don't know who is doing it, but I have heard everything from 'I am dying and have no one to give this money to' to 'I need to transfer (a crazy amount of money) into your bank account'. It's to the point where I want to reply and just go off on these people. I mean, who is going to be crazy/foolish enough to even agree to do something like this? It sounds like the biggest scam ever! Has anybody else gotten these? What can be done to stop this?

Yes, that scam has been around for a few years now. If in doubt, check on snopes.com about anything. Sometimes you read a story in an email and wonder if it's true - go to Snopes, they have plenty of information on there about "phishing scams", etc. The purpose of the email you are referring to is to try and get banking information from people. I know most normal people won't go for that, but occasionally they find a victim. The best way to not become a victim yourself is to follow a few simple rules. 1. If the email is from someone you do not know, delete it. Especially if there is an attachment, which usually contains a virus. 2. Do not reply, if you do this confirms that the sender has found a "live" email address and this will open the floodgates for you to receive MUCH SPAM; and 3. NEVER give out any personal, banking or any other information in an email. Your bank will never ask for it, nor will any other company you deal with. I have, in the past received "phishing" emails that looked like they were from my bank. The were NOT. You need to forward those types of emails to your bank (they should have a fraud center or an email address to report those types of things to).
