Have all the recent plane incidents deterred you from travelling by plane?

There seems to be a lot of plane incidents lately in the news. Here in Canada, in the US and overseas as well. I wonder if theres really more than normal or are they just being made public. At any rate, have these recent plane events, made you think twice about air travel?

I am very concerned that they are not keeping the apprpriate maintence up on these planes. I just think that if I dont have to fly, I prefer not to. I have just heard all these complaints about waits, delays, ect and I have seen alot about the maintence being let go. I would have to say yes, all of it combined, I am more concerned about flying being safe. I mean, really, how do we know what they actualy inspect and what they dont. They can say that it has been inspected but what if it is not? I had also heard about used parts, whats up with that Repairs done with used parts? Ugh

Hi eaforeman6. That is my concern also. Are some of these things happening because of slack maintenance..Also are employees getting adequate training before carrying out their duties at the airport. Seems to me a lot of companies cut corners now and this would be a bad place to do it. The thought of using used parts does not appeal either although I suppose new parts could be faulty as well. Thanks for responding and enjoy the flight!

The odds of your plane crashing are pretty slim, so no, seeing the news lately doesn't deter me from choosing to fly. I guess I feel like if it's my time to go, it's my time. I do admit, though, before we take off, I say a little prayer that we make it safely!

I try to think the same way..and i think its cool up in the sky, but at the same time I am nervous..I think now I would be even more nervous..Maybe next time I will interview the pilot and see how much experience he has!

One time I boarded a plane and was handed a newspaper. Front page news on it was a story with pictures of a concord crash. It was upsetting and not the most comforting thing to see before taking off in a plane. I love traveling and the only practical way to get to far away destinations is by air. I have traveled safely on all my plane trips so fat and I hope I will continue doing so. Other forms of transport can have accidents or serious crashes. A plane once crashed into someone's house near where my mum used to live. I wish you safe traveling.

Oh my gosh!..If I worked on that plane, I would get rid of that particular paper. Some would just laugh but others would be nervous and panic at every little thing such as air turbulance. I have travelled many times too and aside from some rough turbulance, the only thing that happened was one time we were ready for takeoff and had in fact started along the runway when the plane stopped. There was apparently something wrong with the electrical system. I dont mind admitting I was terrified to continue with the flight. I think if I could have jumped out the window, I just might have But I love to travel and to continue to do so, I have to take the plane..I am just much happier when it lands!

Ive only been on a plane twice and I hated it. I had minor panic attacks anytime there was turbulence and when the plane would turn mid-air. *shudders just thinking about it* Even though the statistics say car travel is much mroe dangerous than air travel, I still much prefer it.

Hi AbstractEyes...I have been on a plane many times and I am nervous til it lands...(safely!)... There are more accidents on the road yes, but at least if you crash you have a chance..I suppose though in a plane, you wouldnt know what happened anyways..thats how I try to see it when I fly. Once it lands..I say..oh that was fun!!..NOT!!

Recently, there have been too much plane crashes. But to decide to travel by plane does not make any sense at least for me. See, it is a psychology that we respond to those news which has stronger effect and the same can be said by the plane crashes. Statistically, plane crash is far much less than train accident and that of road accident. Plane brings with itself lots of facilities and the prominent among them is saving of the valuable time. One can not stop living when the whole area is dangerous as in the swat valley of Pakistan. After all, it's all about perceptions.

Hello and thanks for your response..Yes we do tend to respond more to the horrible thought of a plane crash..It sticks in our mind but at the same time, we dont think of the thousands of flights that are flying safely every day. Yes there are less plane crashes than other modes of transportation. Its just that when there is one, it tends to take more people with it. And you are right, we cant stop living for fear.

Now that you mention it I am terrified! lol! Seriously, it is scary, but I just don't think about negative things like that. Not that I'm a super positive person or something, but plane crashes are still quite rare. Maybe a lot of fleets are getting old and aren't being retired or they are not being refurbished properly. It does seem like not everyone thinks about "safety first".
