Which one will you use?

Here is a very simple question. You have a draft of a short story, which is either hand written or has been written in ink. You are required to 'edit' and 'modify' the said draft. You have a pen and a pencil with you. Which one will you use a pen or a pencil to modify the draft and the reasons for using the same. Thanks for your lovely responses in advance.

Short story Deepak. I can edit, modify and write it on another piece of paper i assume. In that case i would use a pen. Because if i made mistakes or did not like, i'd rather write the whole thing again because it's short.

Then the choice is pretty straight forward. It would be a pencil. I'm assuming again that an eraser is also available.

No, dear you are not required to write it again, you have to use either pen or pencil to modify it, what will you use?

Hello! Dear! You appear very smart and intelligent because you know the difference between using a pen or pencil. I may add here taht if you decide to use a pencil, it tells about your nature and it also means that you are very caring and donot take undue risks in your life. You look before your leap. Thanks for joining with Pencil.

I think I would like to use the pencil. It is easy to erase if there are more modifications to be done. Though I am more used to writing with a pen because the writing is more clear with a pen I think I would use a pencil for the modifications. What is the purpose for asking? Are you sending out some drafts of your novel to us???

i will use a pencil, so that i will not be ruining the draft. that way it will be easier to see the corrections because they are all written in pencil. i think, it is much neater to use a pencil.

A pencil would make more sense to me because if I am editing I would probably want to chop and change things along the way so a pencil would permit erasing errors without making a huge mess of the text. Is there a psychological significance to the answer we choose?

Hello deepak! Whew, this is hard..hehehe..I'm kidding! Well, I guess mostly here would probably choose pencil for editing. Pen would be better for it because we can erase some errors and it will still look clean.

Hi dpk, there are always pencil and pen on my computer desk. Since it is only a draft of a short story, so I think what is important for me during that moment is to make the edit and modify in time, so that I won’t forget what I want to do later on. So I will simply seize what is nearer to me, no matter it’s a pen or a pencil as I know both of these could serve their purpose respectively well. What's more it's only for personal use only. Actually nowadays I seldom using pen or pencil anymore for I depend most writing work on my laptop. As the said story is only a brief one so I would rather like to type it out and do the editing and modifying on the computer. Yeah, the required edited and modified short story would look more decent on a printed paper. Happy posting and take care.

Oh yeah, I haven’t answered your question yet instead of keeping on telling others which are boring. If sitting an exams, definitely you will give me a big Zero lol Ok, here is my belated answer. I will choose a pen, for I have confidence that the modification I have made is wonderful and acceptable , I don’t want to see them to be deleted

It is very simple deepak, if the story is still a draft which is to be edited, then a pencil should be used so that you can easily erase it and keep on editing it again and again, till you are convinced that now your draft is final and ready for printing. Of-course you can use tippex to erase pen ink, but still it is messy and time consuming, you many even forget what change you wanted to make as you concentration is diverted. Have a great day.

Hi Deepak, I love to use a pencil not only for editing but for writing also. Don’t think that it can be erased and write it again later. I hate to use an eraser which will loose the beauty of the paper. Usually I prefer to rewrite the same but you don’t give an option for rewriting so I will go with pencil for editing. I am sorry for being late. I don’t know how I skipped your discussion.

Use Pencil for editing - A pencil is a writing or drawing instrument consisting of a thin stick of pigment (usually graphite, but can also be coloured pigment or charcoal) and clay, usually encased in a thin wood cylinder, though paper and plastic sheaths are also used. Pencils are distinct from pens, which use a liquid marking material.
Hello my friend dpk262006 Ji, I would love to make use of 'Pencil' only at first instance, with reason to erase my editing, till I come to make it final. After all, I may keep changing its contents, as I go into details of it. May god bless you and have a great time.

I would use a pencil, because that way, it's easier to separate your markings from your original draft, and also, because that's the way I learned at school. If you make a mistake in editing, you can also erase them easily. Brightest Blessings.

Hi deepak! I will definitely be using a pencil to modify the draft. Sometimes, I tend not to be satisfied after one or two revisions or modifications so I need to erase some of it. If I will be using a pen, it will make the draft looks so dirty as I will try to block the edited words while using a pencil, it will at least be a lot cleaner if I just do some erasures. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

Why a RED PEN, of course! That way my editing will be easy to tell apart from the original and they can take or leave what I have added or changed.

I would use a pencil for any editing. That way if I changed my mind a second time and had overlooked a mistake, it wouldn't be quite as messy as it would with an ink pen.. I think any first draft, if handwritten, should be done in pencil, then when you have it exactly right, do it in ink.. But then again, I always make mistakes, I may need to just stick with the pencil always..

Hi dpk! I use a pen! I never use pencils! I just don't like pencils! I don't know why, but I don't use them for anything ever, not even crossword puzzles and that sometimes is a problem! I just don't like them! I don't know what it is about pencils! Maybe it has something to do with the consistency of them or the smell. I just know that I refuse to use them!

The pen. I just automatically choose a pen. The pencil doesn't write as boldly, and I have a harder time seeing what I've written with a pencil. I might miss the mistake I wanted to correct, because I can't see the lines from the pencil. Always a pen!

YOu have little chance to make corrections with a pen, however, with a darker pencil, you make corrections and re-draft your wordings. Thanks for responding.
