What do you think will happen to your avatar if it is your face?

A lot of people will not put their face on their avatar. There seems to be a fear that someone will abuse it. I am curious on what do you think will happen to it in terms of abuse. It is a low resolution, very small picture that has little use. What do you think will happen to it. Someone will stick it on a nude body and sell it all over the internet? Someone will blow it up and use it to sell picture frames? Some old boy/girlfriend will recognize you and start stalking you on the internet? The police will finally find you when they compare you to their ten most wanted mugshots? What will "they" do with you picture other than comment how attractive or ugly you are. How can it be dangerous for you?

I am sure you are very beautiful and are using the excuse of computer illiteracy to maintain your secret service cover.

Hi there mariposaman, For my believe and self experience, my photo is like my DNA, people can send bad negative energy if i don't taking care of it carefully. Just like hokus pokus, vodoo and all the same activity. It's a self protection.

Sort of like the belief that if someone takes you picture, they steal some of your soul. If someone sticks your face on a voodoo doll, do they not need something of your body like a strand of hair or a fingernail to make the doll work?

Haha! Greetings, fellow resident of Mariposa :) Personally, the avatar I use is an actual picture of myself, whether or not you would like to believe that. I am fine with the way I look, so no I am not ashamed of anything and am not scared anything will happen with my picture. And if you or anyone happens to look at the picture, I am not the guy in the background either haha. Anyways, the fact that I wore sunglasses and was on vacation in St. Martin/Sint Martens more or less hinds my identity anyways. Going off topic, that is a good way to show what you look like but still prevent identity theft (in my opinion) .. wearing sunglasses. If you ever got into the whole Anonymous movement/opposition towards Scientology, then you know what Im talking about. The people tend to wear sunglasses or masks so that the Scientologists could not take pictures of the people and identify them as fair game.

I have my picture as my avatar on a couple of sites and have received no negative comments. I am no movie star either. I guess a lot of people are either very private or shy.

I am a little paranoid and I think all the possibilities you have stated are likely to happen lol. There was a really bad incident that took place in my college when a girls pick was merged with an obsene picture and was circulated around the internet. It was pretty bad. It was followed with a defamation suit and the like. But posting a picture in mylot is quite safe as the pic is of low resolution and small. lol I don't have the police behind me right now though. Have a nice day!

Stay away from the police. They will take your picture with numbers on the bottom and you won't like it.

I like my avatar which has a meaning to me. I don't have a photo of myself that is anywhere near recent and if I did, I would not use it as an avatar. Because of all the identity theft that takes place, I see no reason to make it any easier by making photos or real names, etc. readily available to just anyone on the Internet.

I do not think a low resolution, heavily cropped head photo would be a concern. Especially such a small one that if blown up to any useful size it will become pixliated, or fuzzy. The requirements on most official identification requires certain standards.
