By now most of you must have seen the movie Slumdog millionaire. I was surprised to hear it won the Oscar for best movie. Do you think the movie deserved it.

It sure beat what it was running against. I saw all 5 of the best picture nominated films--one after another in fact at AMC theater's special showing the Saturday before the Oscars. It was the best movie out of the five--though Milk was actually really good as well. I really liked Slumdog and I plan on buying it.

I have not watched Milk yet. I watched The curious case of Benjamin Button and felt it was heart warmming movie.

Benjamin Button was a nice story, but I thought it was too long. And Oscar wise that type of story had already been done in Big Fish Movie which was much better.

'Big fish movie' is that the name of the movie? Is it a animated movie? Is it worth watching?

Well it all depends what type of specs you are putting on and how you look at the picture.it is good and bad both but depends which side of the fence you are on.If you are a westerner you tend to like anything which is even remotely Indian.India is the story which is being read with much interest these days in the West and continues to evoke favourable views and reviews.

You have a good point. Westerners are taking notice of India. Even Bollywood biggies are having collaboration with Hollywood. There was some news about Anil Ambani having some tie up with some Hollywood stars.

In the first place I never talked about the merits/demerits of the movie as such.I was only referring to the attention Western world gives India these days.So far as Bollywood biggies and Anil Ambani are concerned they have the financial wherewithals to do what they are doingi.e.foraying into Hollywood to make a presence on the world stage and earn more money. That is what we are also doing but on a scale no body will ever bother about. Therefore the sum total is how much financial clout you have to attract those willing to be attracted.

i believe tat it is one of the better movies that won oscar compared to 'no country for old men' and 'the departed'. although i did feel that it didn't really have the kick in it to deserve an oscar but it was a good movie. i haven't seen any of the other movies that were nominated for oscars this year so i cannot really give a comparison between the nominees. but all in all, slumdog was a fun movie to watch.

You are right about no country for old men. Odd story with psycho killer and cold blooded murders.

Hi vanillarey, I have already watched this movie four to five times and I would love to watch it once again. First time when I saw this movie I was having kind of amazing feeling. No doubt it is an awesome movie and the direction in this movie was superb. But still I think this movie has been bit overrated. I have not seen any other movies which were selected for oscar this year, maybe slumdog was best among them. Each oscar represents certain area of filmmaking, I think slumdog excelled in every area equally. That's why it got eight oscars.
