Is it cruel to laugh at somebody if what they do catches you offguard?

For example I was at the train station with a friend. This man comes over next to me as if he had something to say, I looked at him, ready for him to speak. He opens his mouth and, without any sort of warning as to the pitch of his voice, he spoke to me in a frequency I previously didn't think possible with the human voice box. Okay, I sort of froze for half a second, then I did that laugh - the kind of laugh that if I had something in my mouth at the time, the contents would have flown out of me at such speeds that it very possibly could have decapitated a few bystanders. I turned away in a weak attempt to hide what had just happened, but it was too late. I was laughing so hard that no noise was escaping me, and breathing wasn't an option. My face was turning bright red and my friend, who was next to me, was laughing just as hard as I was. So that didn't help me at all. So I guess my question is, If I had laughed at him on purpose that would have obviously been rude. But seeing as it was accidental, does that perhaps save my soul? Even just a little? Or am I still going straight to hell? -Aidan.

lol I would have done the same thing as well. I was at my lawyer's place and he was dictating a writ in front of me to his assistant who has typing it on a word document. He made a little mistake which was a slip of the tongue and it wasn't really funny either. As everyone around was sitting seriously in the cabin of a well furnished office and as the whole environment was very serious, it made me laugh so much. I was kicking myself on the inside but I somehow just couldn't contain myself from not laughing. I was bending down as if I had dropped something, and thank god there was a huge table to hide my face. I was so trying to cover my mouth and stop laughing lol. Gawd I am horrible at times. I would definitely have laughed if I were in your situation as I have done such things a lot of times before. Sometimes it is just out of your control. lol I hope we don't go to hell for that haha.

Lol. Ah yes, serious situations. One of the best laugh inducers for me, along with the strain that comes with lifting heavy objects and telling myself not to laugh. Did they happen to know that you were laughing? I'm sure we won't be going to hell. Well at least not for laughing. =]. -Aidan.

Ofcourse they should have for I was behaving like a silly fool lol. They weren't saying anything and I wasn't seeing their face and I was covering my mouth and looking down, hell it is so stupid haha but I am used to making a fool out of myself more times than often so no big deal They would think that I am still immature .

I really cant understand such a pitch, but if you say its funny it must be. Well, the poor guy must have been embarassed, Im sure. But then it was unintentional and Im sure it happens to all of us at some point in time. So relax and your soul is saved. hehe.

It wasn't just the the pitch, it was a mixture of pitch and the noises those little voice things smokers put to their throat to talk. So a high-pitch robotic voice, in effect. I did try to apologize though. But he had left long before I finished laughing. And thank you for your re-assurance =]. -Aidan.
