Does taking vitamin c really help prevent a cold? I get a lot of colds so I was wondering what I could do to prevent them.

Yes, it can help prevent you from getting a cold and yes chicken soup is one of the best things you can take for a cold. Contrary to popular belief, you won't get sick (catch a cold) if you go outside with wet hair or no coat. Colds are casued by viruses that are in the air and you breathe them in. I am always telling my 16 year old to wear her coat. Consciously, I know she won't get sick, but I just don't like her being cold. I think the best form of Vitamin C comes from getting it naturally from the fruit and not in the pill form.

I have always been told that taking a lot of Vitamin C can help you from getting sick, but it has side effects, and unfortunately, one of them can be diarhea. You need to not take more than 1000 grams of it in a day, or you can really mess up your system. I have a better suggestion, though. When you feel like you are getting sick, go to CVS (or wherever) and buy a product called Zycam. I found out about it by listening to Rush Limbaugh. He swears by the stuff, and it REALLY works! It comes in a few different form, but I just use the lozenges. There is also a nasal swab. The only prob;em is that it is a bit expensive, but I would rather pay 13.00 and not get sick. I always have some in the house just in case. Good luck, and I hope you don't get sick!

Yes, vitamin C is very effective for the prevention of colds. I take 500 mg of vitamin C per day and i rarely got sick, in fact doctors recommended to take daily vitamin C to prevent illnesses, it is a water soluble vitamins so it did not stay on longer in our system, it will be flushed out every time we pee.

best way to combat a cold is lifestyle pleanty of vitamins etc etc c especially but just be active and healthy. With my little ones am always giving them fruit juice real fruit juice not the artificial stuff that you can buy As the more vitamins you can have the better and the more active the better. Tho some people are more prone to colds etc like me I get loads of chest infections but I have a weak immune system due to very bad pneumonia when I was a very small kid.
