Does your Country, State, Province make you PROUD? Sometimes?

I am not terribly FOND of the "powers" in government, right now in my Province, but I have got to hand it to them, once in a while they pass a "bill" or two, that makes me give them a "thumbs up!" 1. February 1st, 2009....Mandatory use of "alcohtrol" for first-time Impaired Driving! 2. March 8,2009...We take the lead on "trans-fat" crackdown! As of Sept.30/09, all Food outlets, such as; Restaurants, Cafes, Cafeterias, will have to comply with new rules that state that; "oils and products used to prepare food must NOT contain more than five percent trans fats, while margarines must contain less than two percent trans fats. Forgot to mention this will include all instituitions, special events & bakeries! When you see the "plague" of obesity today...don't you think this is a good thing?

Thank you, for taking part in this discussion, my dear! I am seriously wondering if you are O.K.? Oft times, you are so filled with good thoughts, and you seem so quiet lately...? Obesity is such a problem in this world, for those that have! My son, upon returning from China (just before Xmas) stated that the Chinese people that he worked with talked incessantly about the obesity in China, since the advent of KFC, McD's etc. I guess they are incensed as the transition happened so fast there! Spring is just around the corner..and we will feel rejuvenated, my dear! Cheers!

Definitely it is a good thing but my only question is how the state is going to make sure that all fast food outlets, restaurants, cafeterias and the lot are going to comply with the new regulations of not having more than five per cent fat? When one considers that we are now more health conscious his rule makes a lot of sense.

there is some beautiful things coming out of quebec, but it is the politics that ruin it for everyone I love Montreal, I love my city, there is so much to see and do, it is so culturally diverse, a major fashion capital of the world, has the most colleges and universities in north american, restaurants are out of this world, there is all kinds of food from polish to arabic, it is amazing.

Fighting obesity is a very good thing. But it is not what you eat... It is how much of it you eat. And governments cannot control how much people choose to eat. Same with smoking... The only people I know... who did die from smoking before 60 years of age... were smoking 3 packets a day. Even if you smoke two packets a day... it will kill you. There is no doubt about it. But if you smoke one packet a day... and exercise... you probably can live as long as a non smoker.

For once, Aussies, I will disagree with you, partially! Portion sizes, seconds are a huge contributor to obesity! BUT....there is a marked difference in having a large salad....VERSUS a hamburger and Fries....or KFC...or Pizza..OR OR! What you consume has a huge bearing on your volume! So true, governments can't control your consumption..but seeings here in B.C. where Medical is basically free...it is wise on their behalf to control WHAT they can...as they will be paying for your obesity health problems, of which so many are related to !Nice to hear from you...and hoping that all is getting back on track in your homeland! Cheers!

Truly, good for you...as you are then aware of the detriment of eating foods that you are not (even partially) aware of what you are consuming! And, of course, we will never be sure! Look at the food re-calls tht we have! Trans-fats are truly a hidden health problem, and I am glad to see our government getting a handle on it! Thank you for your response! Cheers!
