I really need to know what is the most effective way to gain muscle-specifically leg and butt muscle. I am trying to get really firm from the waist down and go to th egym almost everyday, every other day working out my legs. I take a spin class, eliptical, and some running. I also do (I don't know the names of them) this one where I lft my leg and foot up behind me straight one leg at a time, th leg press-like squats I think, this machine that I sit down and push my legs in with lots of resistance on it then change it up and push my legs out with resistance (the adominl/abdominal i think) I also do the leg curl from time to time. I am not getting as firm as I want I have been going faithfully and eating a lot of protein. I am a thinner build though if that helps, average height, and I dont want to lose weight and I want to gain if it's all muscle of course but I need to know whats a good amount of reps and weight and all that if I want to keep building-I already have gained some I just think I'm losing it by pushing too hard or not hard enough. Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Standing squats are the best way to build the muscles you want. Some gyms have a machine for this, others, you must use free weights. You stand with the weight bar behind your head resting on you shoulders (some people use a pad on the bar) you squat until your thighs are parallel to the ground. Don't go lower than that or you could hurt your knees. Then stand back straight again. You should use a belt to help avoid hernias. Also, to build muscle it is better to use more weight with less reps. Recovery time is important too, you need to rest each muscle group for a few days before you lift heavy again. Keep eating the protien.

I will try to parallel lift some if that's what it takes. I will definitely try the less reps more weight for sure, thanks!

You don't give your age? I played ice hockey for 12 yrs. No matter what I did I couldn't control my muscle tone til I was 19yrs. old my coach had me doing all kinds of things. When I was in my 20's I started to get control over my body. Your doing a good work out now! Stay away from the temptation of steroids!!!! They make some great protein drinks, I used a powder that I mixed in with milk and it started working, as I said in my early 20's! Hey Good Luck! tdemex

Oh sorry ha, I am a twenty three year old female. So I don't want to get too big I just don't like that my legs are kind of flabby but I don't need to lose weight I just need to really firm up. I might try some powder but I am very biased to protein bars- I love them!

You're supposed to eat protein an hour before workout and right after - and aside from that, avoid eating fat. So if you're eating 3 eggs for the protein, make sure you don't eat the yolk - and avoid eating sunny side up if you don't have a healthy cooking oil. Eat it raw or hard boiled. Thanks for the response on my discussion!
