My 3 years old daughter love pets. Her newly bought pets are 2 chicks. My problem is I don't have a cage for them. I can't set them free outside because the cats here will surely eat them again. So I just keep them in a box but the thing is it smells awful even if I clean them regularly.

i don't think it should be too much to buy a cage...i think it smells because the box is soaking in all the bad stuff. when u get a cage it should help the smell... so the cats ate chicks u've had once before? cause u said again...that's sad :(

Yeah, cats of our neighbors. My kid cried a lot because she saw how the cat take the chick and ran away. I put a tumblers cover in the bottom of the box so I can wash it every now and then. But it stell smells bad. Thank u for yur response i really appreciate it. :)

You can buy a chicken coop from somewhere like Ebay. I keep chickens myself and I keep mine in the garden. They have a shed where they go in on a night to sleep. I keep cockrills too so I do end up with chicks every year. I keep inside my garage in a rabbit cage with their mother untill they get old enough (and big enough) to got back outside. :)

Sorry, that was meant to say I keep the chicks and their mother inside my garage in a rabbit cage until they are big enough to go back outside!

A little suggestion is to use one of those plastic boxes. The plastic makes it easier to wipe clean, making it easier to keep clean. Also, are you sure its not just the smell of the chicks themselves? They have a characterstic smell, maybe you are confusing it? A sandbox may help, the chicks use it to clean themselves via a dustbath. I hope this helps
