My 17 year old daughter thinks that i should allow her to be on the computer all day long. She does have to be on it at least 4 hours a day to do her home school work, but after that she wants to do nothing else but play games and other things on the computer. She is a good girl but i think that she should be doing other thing besides being on the computer. Can someone please advise me of how long she should be on it for. thank you

What else should she be doing? Computers and even computer games have been seen to increase development among children and promote social interaction and cooperation. As long as she isn't signing up for things, you should let her play around as much as she desires, it is great for thinking skills :).

As for how long she should be on the computer I do not know, that depends on if you are monitoring her activities. But what kind of homework does she have that takes 4 hours of computer time? That would be my concern. And is she really only doing homework or is she doing other things online while doing homework?

It's a give and take thing think of it this way she could be out doing a lot worst. I would try to get her to take breaks if there nothing more then say 15 mins every hour that's not to long for anyone. Honestly I've been on the computer for probably 14 hours a day between college and gaming. It does have some problems but if you take breaks gives your body a nice chance to rest. And homework that takes 4 hours thats a line I think all kids of the .com era have used quite a bit.
