The Iberian Lynx, the world's most endangered species of feline and what could be the first feline to go extinct in 2,000 years, suffered a crushing blow this week. With only 200 known Iberian Lynx's alive, they are being monitored extremely closely. Every single birth and death counts at this stage, with so few of these beautiful animals left. This week, a pregnant female lynx was found dead by the side of the road, her body both shot and run over. The plight of the Iberian Lynx is not widely known, and efforts are being made to get out the word. Once found all across France out to the Iberian peninsula, these cats are now only found in small areas of Spain. These animals, despite living in protected habitats and on the critically endangered list, are still being poached and poisoned by farmers who fear the animals will kill their large stock - despite the fact that an Iberian Lynx is incapable of killing anything larger than a shrew. You can visit Lynx Aide, an organization dedicated to making the public aware of what's happening to this beautiful animal, and working to save it from extinction. http://www.lynxaid.org/about.html Just spreading the word will help.
