Texas High School Football...Is it that good?

I go to college in Texas, but i'm from Colorado. And everyone here rants and raves about how amazing texas football is and I went to watch a good 5-A texas football team and they weren't that good, Am I wrong to make the assumption that Texans have nothing better to do with their time so they worship High school football?
