An English professor wrote the words : "A woman without her man is nothing" On the chalkboard, and asked his students to punctuate it correctly. All of the males in the class wrote : "A woman, without her man, is nothing." All the females in the class wrote : "A woman: without her, man is nothing." Lol..i couldn't stop laughing since i read this

THE WORD FOR "NOTHING" Actually, the subjective word in that sentence is "nothing". So, it can be twisted and turned the other words to reach the subject. It also could be "Without her man, a woman is nothing" or "Is nothing a woman, without her man". I think, that English professor got trouble with his wife and no place to express or vent his anger. So, he highlighted that words and shared with his students. Thanks for providing this nice discussion.

This is funny! The meaning can get totally different with the change in punctuation. And we must be careful while using right kind of punctuations. Thanks for sharing this.

Quite interesting and funny too.Yes!the punctuations are must when the statements have ambiguity.I can give you another example."A big fat policeman's wife".In this sentence, the commas placed after big or fat gives different meanings.Try it out.Cheers!

Lol, its really amazing how punctuations can change the meaning of the sentence. Hehe, I would've answered it that way too. Typical, huh? :) I'm sure it started a debate in that class between the tow sentences. Wish I was there in that classroom, hehehe.
