Do You Feel Guilty When You Have Nothing to Do at Work so You Do Other Things?

Whether it's retail, sales, insurance, administrative, office sitting, management, ect. Do you have enough to do everyday? Or too much? Do you have free time you can spend doing other things? If so, how much? And what does your company say or feel about you using their time not to do work? Especially if they haven't given you anything to do or you have finished evrything already? I work as a receptionsit and very often am bored but I have the internet, and I feel bad about not doing anything but answer phone calls but there is nothing else to do for nine hours of my day except the internet.

i used to feel bad, when they hired me they told me i would have down time, but still, some days i do nothing but play online. its not like i'm a bad person, but we are slow and thats the way it is. luckily, i found surveys and mylot to keep me busy but at least i have a job.

well technically, there is no one else here who does what i do, i do all the accounting plus secretarial support for everyone. so although they could get rid of me, the odds of it are very slim.. but no, i'm not scared

This is exactly how I feel!!! I'm glad to know someone else ha steh saem problem. Do you get nervous that you are dispensable and you might not make the cut if lay offs were to occur?

I feel badly when I sit online and do surveys, but sometimes there is just nothing going on in my office to keep me occupied. Sometimes, I also feel like I need a mini break, too. I work in a very boring field - asbestos removal. All day I talk about appointments, asbestos, mold and construction. Sometimes I need a few minutes away to check my email or myspace, which isn't a problem because I am the office manager. It does bum me out though, when I get way too much work and I don't have enough time to finish it!

Wow...that does sound like a boring job, but asbestos is not insurance...it's definitely original. Mini breaks are good I think they help you work faster when you are working, That's my opinion. How would you feel if you had an employee doing whatever they wanted if they had no work to do and they had finished everything?

Oh, believe me, that happens everyday! My boss works mainly from the road, so somedays I am stuck wondering what he has done with his day!
