Flat Ironing Hair

I like to use a flat iron ever few days to straighten my hair. I have a really good flat iron but I still can't get my hair to look very healthy when I use it. I use a heat guard spray before I use the flat iron but it doesn't seem to help much. Some people I see with straight hair have really shiny and healthy looking hair. That's my goal. What do you use on your hair before you use the flat iron?

First you have to decide if your hair is healthy to start.. If not get a great shampoo/conditioner. I recommend Reken REAL CONTROL. Their whole line is wonderful and will help repair your damage. It doesn't work the first day, but after continually use, it does wonders! Second, what kind of flat iron are you using? If its a cheapy brand, then you're just hurting your hair, even with the heat guard. I love my Sedu that I got at folica.com. Its one of the better brands, alittle pricey, but a great buy. Third, try Redkens HEAT GLUIDE. It its a serum that you put into your hair before your dry it. Or Paul Mitchells SUPER SKINNY or SHINY, I can't remember what is it. As for a spray, try Aquage Shine Spray. You can always go to your local Salon and ask whats the best shine spray. They will always give you great recommendations. If you go to folica.com they give you great reviews on many hair products and they also sell the products online.

Great recommendations! For now I'm using Tresseme shampoo and conditioner for brunettes. I also use their heat guard spray and I also use the the heat guard spray from CHI. I've been using my CHI flat iron too that my husband bought me for Christmas.

I had a CHI as well, its a good brand, but I upgraded to the SEDU when my CHI stopped working. Also, on folica, alot of people show pictures of how the products worked on them

I've been on the Folica website before. That's how I heard about the CHI. I'll keep the Sedu brand in mind for whenever my CHI fizzles out.

If your hair is dry and easily to break and you really want to make it shiny and straight you can use mayonnaise look for light scent and non-mix or non-flavored one, wet your hair and spread it evenly from root to tip, specially the tip of your hair. Let it stay there of 2-3 minute wash it with shampoo to take away unpleasant mayonnaise smell, before you use conditioner that you prepare iron your hair in paper thin layer, you will surely see a shiny healthy hair. Do this every time you iron your hair. because ironing can make your hair more prone to split ends and it tends to dry. Mayonnaise have all the essential nutrients that your hair need to regain its natural health. Maybe its sounds like crazy but it works.

You know that most beuty secret are just within our kitchen. You don't need to buy expensive staff and chemical mixture, it only make things worse, just simply back to basic and everything will work just fine.

The heat guard sprays are not enough for my needs when I use a flat iron. I suggest you look for a heat guard cream or gel, they seem to coat the hair better and leave it looking healthier. I also use a leave in conditioner on my hair FIRST.. before apply the flat iron products.

Been living that problem for 50 years.. and never found the answer so I cut mine shoulder length! Back in high school I used the "iron your hair" to make it straight and I'd iron it, with an actual clothes iron, between 2 pieces of wax paper... never did what they said it'd do. Now with a flat iron tool, It will make it seem and appear less thick and more managible, but that's about it. No shine or swing or any of that they show on the long hair shampoo commercials! I even used Long and SIlky back then and Body on Tap hair shamppos/conditioners ... and still. nothing!

Hi Shar19. I dont use flat iron because im afraid that it might damage my hair. Some friends told me that it can break and dry the hair when constanly using it. I maybe used it twice or thrice ever since. Or maybe my hais is straight enough that I did not think of using it. I use the curling iron on some special occassions. Same with the flat iron, it can also damage ones hair if constantly use.

You're right about thought. I've already had some hair breakage.
