So far the Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan is the best Christian literary classic I have ever encountered . The Pilgrim's Progress is an allegory that depicts the very narrow and thorny path of the journey of a Christian from earth towards the heavenly city. The main character in the story is Christian who makes his way from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City of Zion (The New Jerusalem) He met a man by the name of Evangelist who serves as his guide in taking the whole journey. Along the journey, Christian encounters a lots of distractions that lead him astray , and take him out of the narrow way towards the Heavenly City. Among them is Mr. Worldly Wiseman who encourages Christian to a religion of Law, good works and self-righteousness with the aid of his servants Legality and Civility. The journey of Christian is full of adventures. He also had a battle against Apollyon in the Valley of Humiliation. Ha also have to pass to the Valley of the Shadow of Death. He met also other characters that give him encouragement like Faithful who was martyred at Vanity Fair. He passed by Enchanted Ground and Land of Beulah. Finally he has to cross the River of Death . This Christian allegory depicts the reality of the christian life that demonstrates indeed that the Christian walk is a battlefield. There are many distractions that will take away a Christian focus from Christ. And the Christian journey involves a life and death bout with Satan. I consider this literary piece an excellent work from a man who have indeed gone through the thorny paths of Christianity. This is indeed an ageless classic, that will always captivate even modern day Christians. The Pilgrim's Progress, the movie is done excellently. The performers in the movie were able able to represent perfectly the characters presented by John Bunyan in the book. The movie was able to depict perfectly the reality of the dangers in a christian's life, the reality of the battles in a Christian walk while throdding the very narrow road towards the Heavenly City. Truly one will see that to be a Christian is to be engaged in a warfare. But as Christians we have to be firm in the Lord, for Jesus is Victor. I highly recommend the movie to strengthen and deepen your spiritual life. The author John Bunyan is a great classic writer and a great defender of the Christian Faith. He has a deep Christian experience and he experienced God's power mightily in his very own life. What can you say about Pilgrim's Progress?
