When I am home alone or with the kids I usually have the remote however the minute my husband gets home from work he takes it. It doesnt matter if he changes the channel or not, he just taskes it. Sometimes he comes in and just ends up watching Cartoon Network with the kids and other times he will change it immediately. I dont know why he has to have it. I guess its a guy thing! :) So who has the remote in your house?

Hello callahanb. I agree with you there, it must be a guy thing. My husband's the one who holds the remote around the house. I've gotten used to it as it has been like this for many years now. It's not an issue for my daughter as she has her own tv in her room. Thanks and have a wonderful day!

It's a guy control thing. Does he have control issues in other areas of the relationship also?

I have the remote all of the time, basically because my partner hardly ever watches television. He enjoys spending his free time on the internet instead of watching the televsion. It's nice in a way because I can watch what I want to, but sometimes it would be nice if he would sit down and relax with me and watch a movie.

I don't watch a lot of tv to begin with but I am in the same boat as you. Everytime that my husband is home, the remote is in his hand. Sometimes I think he would glue it to himself if he could,LOL. I guess it really is a guy thing cause every other guy that I know, does the same thing. I personally don't mind becuase like I said I rarely watch tv but I guess that if I did, I might try to take controll of it more often,LOL.

I do! I live with my mother and she has her own TV in her room and so do I! Years ago when I was married, my husband ruled the remote, but not any more, thank god!

When I was a kid, I always used to fight with my sister for the remote. I still remember when it used to be tv time, we used to run to the hall and fight for the remote. I still remember the efforts mom used to put to stop us from fighting. Then we had two tv sets in our home. So the one who got to the hall first would get the remote and the one who didn't get it used to go to the dining room to watch tv... Now she's married and I miss those fights... Now there's no one to compete with me for the remote, so usually I get it.... Happy mylotting

The remote in the house is owned by the one who watches the television. When my husband is sleeping I am the one watching the television so I own the remote control. When his cousins are here they hold the remote and they watch cartoons the whole day. I get the remote back when I have a show that regularly watch but most of the time I just let them watch their own. I just play with my baby. During weekends when my husband is enjoying his day off we both watch television but it does not matter who holds the remote. We both watch the same show so if we want another channel there is no argument if I ask him to change the channel and he does the same. It is just a matter of give and take. Luckily we both want almost same shows most of the time.

We have two televisions. But, when our parents say use the tv my sisters always fight for the remote. I bought my own remote which has my name on it. that is why they can't touch it.

Same thing as me, I just gotta have the remote when I'm in the living room, but in general, we can watch our favorite show on our own TVs without having to bother others. I guess you are right, having the remote is a guy thing and its all about control.

I tend to be the one that has control over the remote. My partner has it if I'm doing other things and not that interested in watching TV, but they give up control of the remote if I come in the room or if I get back from classes and stuff. I'm not sure why it works out that way, it just does. She's not much of a TV person, I guess I'm more of the person that watches things so I guess that is why I have power over the remote.

I usually am the one with the remote. My husband doesn't watch much tv. When he does watch we usually watch something together. He likes most of the shows that I like so it works out well. I'm kind of the same way as your husband. Sometimes I just like to have the remote even if I don't change the channel. I think it is because I don't like to watch commercials. So if I have the remote in hand I can channel surf if I get tired of hearing the commercial.

i don't have a husband yet. but as i observe from my parents, my mom usually holds the remote and she's also the one who can changes channels only. i don't know why. i think it's pretty strange. because as far as i know, men usually holds the remote. maybe my dad just respects my mom too much that he let her holds it and changes channels whenever she wants. but whenever dad wants a show on the other channel he requests it to my mom and my mom lets him watch his favorite shows too. anyway happy mylotting!

It depends sometimes if I like the movie I am watching I will never let him holds the remote control. But when the night comes he loves watching news program and If I am not in my mood I will let him hold the remote but I will not watch. It's simple for us if you don't like the channel then don't watch. And if you hold the remote first then you have the control.

we have a L shaped sofa so the remote just stays in the middle, the kids also have a seperate tv so if they want to watch something they can without watching the main screen,

My wife tends to be the one with the remote. She watches more T.V than I do which might be the reason why. When I ask for it though, she will give it to me. She normally picks what we watch if we have nothing planned that we both want to watch. I think that the reason he wants the remote is because he wants to think that he has control, and I admit sometimes I have that problem too. Address the problem if you feel very strongly about it and solve the problem before hand.
