How many ladies here have driver's license?

Well, am sure not all men also have driver's license specially in the Asians countries? not all men are driving much more for the ladies. I have no driver's license yet because I am new to this country and afraid to drive. hahaha... I am driving only in the back road. I feel the necessity of driving now that I am here in US. Back in my country I don't care because we have lots of public vehicles. They said when you are older it needs a lot of courage to learn driving compared to when you are young to start. What do you think ladies and gentlemen who have a license to drive? Is it too late for older people to learn driving? I don't want to admit I am old to drive because I have seen older like 70-80 plus years old who are still on the road driving? I just need an encouragement from ladies who got their license when they are older. Just excited to hear your story..

Hi AntiqueLady, I appreciate your encouragement!!! I will really do it. This year, I will do it and I will post it here when I can have my license hahaha... Seriously!!! I really need to have my driver's license this year because I plan to work outside home and no one will take me to work if I can't drive. Hubby has his car and he is also working.. I have mine but I can't drive.. the only problem now is my license and I am fine as soon as I can qualify to have one. wish me luck..

I really will.. because I have a possibility of working this year and I don't want to wait for anybody to take me to work. I want to do it myself. Thanks for your encouragement. I know you are an expert driver.. imagine? you have a driver's license for 50 years already? that's too long time ago?

Hi Bebs, we are not yet old to get it..I am working with ladies in the hospital who are 60-70 plus and who are still driving...It is really a necessity here since we public transportation is not that easy as what we have and unlike in our COuntry, we can sometimes ask our relatives to drive us but here, everyone is busy working and no one will care to do it for us...LOL! I didn't even take the learner's permit yet, I know it's been a year here and I need to do something,,,,hopefully this year!

Hi Che, I already have my learner's permit and It is almost to expire but I was not able to use it all the times. I have a car to practice anytime I want but nobody will accompany me. My hubby has no time and if he has, we always argue on the road. hahahaha. I have been driving on the back road but with a lady friend. Like you, I want to do something this year... I plan to hire instructor but I feel "sayang" for my money... hahaha $50 per hour is too much?? Hubby said, he will be the one to teach me than paying $50..

that is also what I am thinking but it's very expensive...Anyway, I can't do it also with my hubby or we will just argue all the time...I have pinay who offer to help me but they live far from us...let's hope for the best!

Hi Che, Something will really work out for us at the right time. Good luck to both of us.. Just wonder why most husbands are impatient when teaching their wives to drive? hahaha my brother is like that too. My sister in law just do it by herself because they keep on arguing when my brother is with her.. hahahaha.. Like today, my hubby said, he will use his helmet when I will drive going to walmart to protect himself.. very annoying...

I've been driving since I was 18. I started at 18, I had student driver's license, then after 3 months I had my non-pro license. I've been driving stick shift roughly 6 years. I learned driving when my mom asked me if I want to learn driving back in first year College. Had I think 4 days or 5 days of hands on training on the real road test, never had lecture about road signs and such.. That I could remember of. So after I've completed the hands-on, I did ask our driver that time to teach me, did practice on the highway. I was of course freaking nervous but I didn't let that get in my way. I had few scratches and very minimal dents. And never wrecked a car! And so I started not to believe in the saying, "You will never learn driving unless you crash the car!" Screw that. I guess I was just good and all.. Lol I'm planning to sell my car and get a automatic.. Though I love stick shift, traffic is just so bad in PI, and I want my foot to be at rest...

I was in my twenties before I got my license and it was spooky for my, mostly interstate stuff I still hate that part but it is easier. Though I do have to admit that I have given up my license for a while because I don't trust my eyesight. I was in an accident and I think it was mostly due to a loss of dept perception so until I get lasic I will not be driving. I am sure that you will do fine just remember two things #1 don't let other drivers push you into driving faster than you are comfortable with (you know those jerks that ride on your tail to get you to speed up) #2 keep the distractions to a minimum. You do this and then in no time you will be driving like a pro.

Very sound advice. I am driving a little bit now in the highway but I am still distracted with the people who keep on blowing their horns behind me and the coming traffic specially if they are big cars.. But I will follow your advice. thanks.

don't feel bad I've been here 25 years and I don't have a license. I'm not that crazy about driving like you I only drove around the corner and down the street. I think if I would drive I probably would have killed someone by now, maybe myself too. Ha Ha

I got mine when I was 16. I don't know what I would do if I didn't have my license b/c I do a lot of running b/c my boys are in sports. I don't think being older is too late to learn as long as you're capable of driving, reflexes good, eyesight is good,....there are some younger drivers who I don't know how they got their license. If this is something you want to do I say you have every right just like everyone else to have one =)

Yea right!!! that is my problem too. Even in going to the grocery store, I can't go by myself I have to wait for him and he is always in a hurry. I want to stay longer but I can't because he wants to go home right away. That is why I want to go out by myself so that I can manage my own time.

I have a driver's license, I just don't have a car to drive! lol! I moved to a city that has public transportation, I prefer taking it than driving. I like to drive when it's a long drive but not when I'm just going to work.

Hello Bebs08! I would be like you too. I don't have a driver's license yet, but they said we really need it especially there in the US. Now you made me scared..hehehe..While reading to your discussion, I told myself "would it be hard for me?"lol! But my cousin is in Ohio and she just learned how to drive there. She said driving is not really hard and I believe her because she didn't take a driving lesson. Her husband just taught her.

Well, there are many Filipina here who have the same problem with me but as the years go by they were able to do it. I am driving now but just in the back road. My hubby was the one who taught me how to drive but we keep on arguing when we are on the road,, ahahah because he wants me to drive like he does? What?? i can't go that fast because I am still learning? It makes me nervous when he is so noisy telling me what to do specially if there are cars behind us and towards us. It drives me nuts.. hahaha But I am learning..

I got my license when i was 17 and my permit at 15. My granma is 81. She still drives. She laid off it for a while because she was having eye problems. She got eye surgery done and now she drives again. I guess it just depends on the person.

My husband never wanted me to sdrive. He drove or he employed a driver to take where I wanted to go. when I insisted he still did not like it but he was starting to get sick and I said to him that there would not be anyone to drive him to hospital iof he tok sick at night. so I was over 40 when I learnt to drive and it sis take me a little longer because I used a stick shift. I have never regretted learning to drive and when he was sick I did have to drive everywhere. YOur life will chnage so just do it. Of course you can! Go for it!

Hi, I am taking driving lessons now. I have to admit that I am scared of driving at first but you will find driving to be fun after knowing the basics. I started my driving lessons about one month ago. I regretted that I start to learn driving a few years after the lawful driving age in my country. I think everyone should learn how to drive as it is a very practical skill.

Well, if you are in the Philippines or India, just don;t drive because drivers there are driving like crazy. Cars here and there. Not following the traffic rules.. here in America is very different. Roads are not as crazy as India and Philippines.

I don't have driver's license my friend. I know a little driving but not enough to brave the risky roads of Makati and Manila. My husband taught me how to drive some 4 years ago but I only drive in isolated places like inside the subdivision, mountain sides, memorial parks and the likes ! (Ha!ha!ha!ha!, where there are not much vehicle and just for fun. I just know the basics on how to move the vehicle but certainly I am very far from being proficient. As of now I think I will not not be needing a license as I have my son and my hubby to drive for me. But certainly, I believe driving is an important skill and it is a big plus if you know how to. Age is not a hindrance to know driving and securing a license for as long a you are are still strong and capable.

I agree with you 100 percent my friend. Good for you, you know all the basics long time ago even if you are not driving. Me? hahaha I just know how to maneuver 2 years ago and not very much since I am scared. I learn to steer the wheel using the lawn mower tractor hahaha... it's like a joke for others but a serious thing for me at first.. I even experienced of hitting the lamp post in our yard.. hahaha the post goes under the car the my hubby has to jack up the car to take out the post. That was my scary experience..

Really? so then, I am not alone.. if some People who are born here in America don't ever have license in their later years? I would not worry about having mine in my age now.. hahahaha... I really don't want to drive but when I can't go to the place I want to go, because no one will drive me there? It motivates me to have a license to drive.. hahaha so that I can go anywhere I want.

I got mine when I was 21, but I usually don't drive anywhere because we only have 1 car, and my husband takes it to work. I believe, no matter how old you are, if you're willing to try, willing to learn, and believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind too. It's never too late to learn to do something new. Good Luck!!!!!!

Oh!! thank you very much for the encouragement. My mother in law got her driver's license when she was 38 years old? hahaha.. Well, I think you are right!!! it is jut a matter og willingness to learn and positive thinking that we can do it. Believe in yourself that you can do it. Concentration that it will happen..
