Plans to develop a 700 megawatt wind farm on offshore Long Island have been laid down. They're looking to place this wind farm off of the Rockaway Peninsula - at least 15 miles off, to be exact. The only problem, of course, is cost. To switch over to wind power would cost 145 million. On the other hand, this farm would be able to power 250,000 homes right off the bat at a fraction of the cost of electric power. Not to mention what it would mean in reducing energy consumption. And that's with the farm only operating at 30%. Imagine how many homes and businesses could be powered when it begins running at 100%! Right now, officials are debating over where the money will come from. Hopefully the money will be found, because this is an incredible step in energy saving technology.
