In Genesis in the first few chapters it tells that God says let there be light and there was. Later it says he created the sun, one to rule the day and one to rule the night. How was there light before the sun?

He needed to have a bright light and a dull light and hence the sun and the moon. that is how i think god created the sun and the moon.

Yes, but I was wondering how light was created without the sun, but shoreboy answer makes sence. I guess you wouldn't need the sun. Thank for your response.

God is so powerful that He only needed to say it and it was done.

That seems pretty simple...The sun is not the only source of light in the universe. The light he created was the physics of light I suppose, if that's how it can be explained. Basically he made light first so that when he created the sun it could be seen. Without light nothing could be seen, as color is actually just the refraction, or bending of light. Even when it is totally dark in a room there is still light, it's just not at a wavelength that is visible to the human eye. Before he created light there was no movement of photons whatsoever thereby causing absolute darkness, which means there is absolutely no light that any creature could see.
