Why do we drink?

Hi friends, I do use alcohol, though not regular now a days, but use to have it heavily 2-3 years back. When i was a real alcoholic, somehow i will find out a way or reason to get drunk, but even i wasn't aware of the reason. After getting drunk sometimes, i might get sentimental and sometimes might be happy as never before. But now I am wondering why I did so. I didn't have that much of tension or depression some feeling which could be classified as negative. Now a days, I do use alcohol socially. Can you guy share with me the reason "why you consume alcohol?" if there is any :-)
