Unhappy - Reach for your sister

According to some recent research sisters bring happiness with them, whilst brothers are more likely to bring distress. Personally speaking, I have one "real" sister who I don't see or speak to very often, and several online ones that are always there for me. Do your sisters, real or otherwise, bring you happiness. Do brothers really bring distress and unhappiness?

I'm in the same boat as you are actually and have one "real" Sister that I speak to every month or so and that's it. As for her bringing me happiness, I guess she does when I talk with her, sure, but it's certainly not a constant. I have none myself, but I think the distress angle from Brothers can depend on whether the Brother is older or not! lol. Many of the friends I've known that DO have Brothers, seem to have a much easier time of it if the Brother is younger than them. Especially when we're talking both of them being of the same gender.

I don't have a real brother either. So I'm not really qualified to comment. However, I think that brothers are fine once they are grown - you are either close or you never see them - but growing up can be a nightmare.

I agree that it's the younger years that present the most serious challenges. It's not until intelligent reasoning ability kicks in that things smooth out a bit. This scenario applied with my Sister and I, that's for sure. And Alice, you're all into the wacky backy, so this is no surprise at all!

I have 4 real sisters and 4 real brothers and I can tell you I am only really close to my youngest sister and youngest brother. I don't hear or see from the others really unless they want something or for me to do something. We are not really that close at all to each other either..I guess it is the last three of us that sticks together the most..I guess with the distress part if can go both ways.. I get it from both brothers and sisters.

I try to be. I want her to have a good life and not have to deal with stuff I did growing up with the older siblings..I treat her as I would my own child if I had one. But I like spoiling her. They grow up so fast and one day she will be totally focused on boys and I will be history...so I am hoping that day will be far off yet..

I know how well you and your little sister get along Becky. You do spend a lot of time together which I think is lovely. You're a great sister.

I have got no sisters or brothers. However I have a cousin who is the same age with me. It's anoying that parents and especially grandparents love to compare we two cousins. Having sisters and brothers only causes stress.

I love my sisters so much and I don't want to trade them for anybody in the whole world. They've been there for me ever since I was a kid, and they know my every little secrets. OF course, we also have some sibling rivalries and it's just normal for everybody who has siblings, but we patch things up immediately..and now that we're miles apart, believe it or not, we still do send I LOVE YOU text messages to each other..and that's what keeps me going.

I have no real sister, but i certainly wish I had one which i prefer to be older. I have am older brother and we cam't seem to get well enough during the last five years but we are eventually trying to get along well just recently. I guess the joys of having a brother or a sister depends entirely on how you get along well with each other. I've a couple of friends who are real close to their brother and i really envy them.

Indeed. It all depends on how well you get on. I have online sisters on myLot who I am very close to.

There both the same for me. Because i can have a laugh with my brothers by chucking a ball about, or having a convo with the oldest. But with my sisters i can go shopping, talk about stuff. So i don't really see a difference between them.

Hi p1, I have only one sister, the youngest in the family. We used to fight a lot when we were kids until High School but this time, we are so close to each other. She is far from me but we are talking everyday through txting...Like my Parents, she brings a lot of happiness to me!
