For how long is it okay to breastfeed?

What do you think? Here in Sweden it's a hot debate. I even heard people saying it's perverse to breastfeed a child over 6 months. For me personally I think it's nothing wrong to breastfeed as long the mother and child feel ocmfortable with it. But that of course doesn't include breastfeeding a 10 year old or so, as seen in certain documentaries... So, give me your opinions people!
