when i was growing i remember that during holy week specially during good friday my mom does not cook any meat. chicken, pork and beef. we can only eat fish and vegetables. one more thing when it reach 3pm at good friday we can not take showers or baths anymore. some parents will not explain why are they doing it and all we have to do is to follow. i will still not be eating any pork as my way of abstinence but i no longer follow the not bathing after 3pm. so what do you do every holy week specially on good friday? do you have any customs and traditions during lenten season.

we never ate meat on good friday. i was raised in a christian home not catholic but protestant and that is the one thing that my parents still do. i didn't raise my kids that way and if we happen to eat meat on good friday i don't sweat it. i remember growing up that i had friends who didn't eat meat on fridays all through lent. i always felt that was strange but customs are customs, right? i never heard about the bathing thing.

No disrespect intended to anyone here but I just never felt that it was necessary to give up meat on good friday. we weren't big meat eaters and we had a lighter meal on good friday but didn't always ban meat from the meal.

As a Filipino we have so many beliefs. When I was young my mother told us to be quiet during Good Friday and take a bath very early. We also avoid eating meat during Holy Week. In Good Friday we go to church. We still practice what where doing back then. But sometimes there some belief is hard to understand. The important thing this Holy Week we remembers the God sacrifices to us.

yes my mom wants us to be quiet too but me as the first born (who is a guy) and the second born who is a guy as well it was hard to keep us till and keep our mouth shut. yes there are a lot of old traditions that are really hard to explain and as i grew older and found out that some are just done in a wrong way. i still abstain from eating meat during the lenten season but no longer do the not taking a bath part.

we also refrain from eating pork and beef but we eat white meat such as chicken and fish, seafoods also.. I try to abstain as much as i can although it's really tempting especially when we go out to eat. just a while ago we went to eat at a restaurant specializing in babyback ribs. i was so tempted to order the dish but i restrained myself. i ordered fish and chips instead :)

my wife loves baby back ribs too and during holy week it is better to stay at home than to go out side for it is not easy to go out and see a lot of food har har har. but yes i can go on fish and chips instead of baby back. good for you on ordering fish than get tempted to eat meat. thanks a lot for the response

do you do the way of the cross to? how about the bisita iglesia? my wife has a lot of traditions but she stop it for the mean time for our three year old son. we like to teach him too the importance of holy week. traditions like this are handed over to us and we should hand it over to our children as well. thanks a lot for the response

Hi se7, That is also the same to what my family and relatives are observing before and this time, I am also doing some fasting and trying to minimize my bad habit and observe my behavior, words that will come out from my mouth and actions...Just trying to be "good" since I am not good! Joke!

the behavior is one more, my brother is extra good during holy week har har har but he becomes his natural behavior after the holy week, so no sense. i will introduce to my child the importance of holy week. as soon as he is big enough i will let him know what is holy all about. thanks a lot for the response

Keeping Lent Holy - We celebrate Lent in the traditional way. We keep it as Holy as possible by visiting churches, doing the Way of the Cross, etc.
Part of the tradition of Lent is to fast, or refrain from eating meat, especially on Good Friday...so tomorrow, we're gonna have fish and vegetables and eggs only. But Saturday, we can already eat, but it's better to fast, which means we eat one full meal for the day...Another belief is the "bisita iglesia" which we will start doing tonight, up to tomorrow. We're visiting 7 churches as part of the Lenten celebration. We're also doing the Way of the Cross as a family.

me and my wife eats rice at lunch and eats bread at night. the only person who is eating rice for dinner is our three year old son. he can eat anything but lucky us he loves fish so much. he can eat fish all day. during the holy week veggies and fish really are expensive. my wife also has a tradition of bisita iglesia and do the way of the cross. but as of now she stop doing this for our son but still prays at home. thanks a lot for the response

It been a tradition to not o eat meat during holy week. But in my own opinion it depends on the belief and religion of the person. As for us we don't follow this tradition, there are others ways on sacrificing.

very true indeed, that there are a lot of ways for a person to sacrifice, some skip meals and some avoid their favorite drink. i am a cola drinker and a stop drinking for a week as my sacrifice it is good for me as well. thanks a lot for the response

I do not have any customs or traditions done every good Friday except I do not eat meat. I eat anything because I do not really do abstinence or fasting. I respect what others do though. I take a bath anytime I want and I still work when I had work before. I just pray within myself, I do not go to church or attend to masses. Anyway I sometimes watch movies about the sufferings of God to feel the importance of what He did to save us and our sins.

That's exactly what was taught to me. And still follow it, and my mom strictly cook fish during the three days (thurs, fri, sat). As far as I remember, I'm always at home during the lenten season. It's not a tradition, but somehow, it became a custom that I have to stay at home...and rest, I guess.

yes it is not traditional but most of the shops are closed during lenten week. but i still observe that Filipino people are still observing the holy week. you can still see people making sacrifices and doing the way of the cross. my sister works in a call center and she still needs to go to work even during this season. thanks a lot for the response
