what is with people wasting 911's time and tying up the lines with food problems? i've seen two cases in the news lately one over chicken nuggets and the other over lack of shrimp in her rice (see story here-not a referal link)http://www.wtsp.com/news/mostpop/story.aspx?storyid=103712&provider=top do they really think something like that warrants the use of 911? maybe they should start handing out pamphlets when people get phones about correct usage. i can imagine if some of these people ran out of toilet paper.while an emergency,it does not require emergency aid.

omg. that is just crazy. i didnt know they did that! some people have no common sense. they should pay for it to learn a lesson instead of others having to pay by not getting help when they need it.

That's an incredibly foolish thing, for much national resource, or, taxpayer's money has been wasted on stupidity and zilch! These people should be duly punished.

I agree with Benny...people who misuse the 911 line should be fined! It's for emergencies only. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard!

I think it's an offense in Australia to misuse our emergency number which is 000. When you dial you are asked if you want police, fire or ambulance and you are transferred. It makes it simpler I think. How can people be so stupid to ring for those ridiculous reasons. It just goes beyond thoughtless in my opinion. People should be advised that a (big) fine will be incurred for using the emergency number for other than appropriate reasons.

I really have no idea why some people waste the police's time over this sort of thing. It's really ridiculous. There are a lot more serious offenses, or problems going on in the world than this. I think that they should count themselves lucky that they can even have food. Some people can even afford a loaf of bread.

i know it. or they just seem to think they're that important that 911 should care.

I think they should really give them a harsh punishment. Someone could be dieing because they needed help and this person is holding up the line with their stupidity.

i think that some people are completely and totally brain deficient. I once read about a woman who called 911 because she didn't know how long to cook a turkey, and at first I thought that you were going to tell us this story, but no, you told us a new one!!! i thought that turkey thing was bad, but that this has happened more than once (or once at all) is ust sick, sick, sick!!!

We have that happen almost every holiday season. People call up asking if it is normal to have a lot of smoke coming from an outdoor fryer (they put a turkey in frozen and it almost exploded everywhere). The worst is when people try to barbecue inside. I'm not talking a propane tank either, I'm talking with charcoal. Not only do you risk having fumes and smoke kill you but one hot coal or ash can set your house on fire. Now, the twits that call and say that their food is burned or that they need help stuffing a turkey or chicken, they need to get a fine and should have to pay for the time involved with the call. I'm not a chef but I'd die of embarrassment if someone called 911 and they showed up (they have to respond to a call regardless) and it turns out it was something trivial like runny mashed potatoes or lumpy gravy lol.

There's a simple way to solve it...30 days in the county jail and a hefty fine would put a stop to it. I think if they started doing this then ppl would stop being so a**inine about it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

we have the same problem here in uk with 999 calls, to be honest I personally think anyone that rings 999 for a non emergency should be fined or at least warned then fined or even prosecuted for wasting the emergency services time. Indirectly it will be costing lives and tax payers money. Also I think everybody knows whats a 911 or 999 call, but choose to use the 911 or 999 as there own personal care or pizza service.
