Handy cam with good video and sound quality?

My brother a guitarist is very interested in uploading videos in youtube but his handy cam sound quality is horrible and so as the picture too. When I browse youtube videos I see people with high quality pictures and sound and I was wondering what kind of cam they might be using. So, I thought of asking my fellow mylotters what kind of model I shall recommend him to buy and the brand too.
