The Stranger/Outsider makes Meursault (protagonist) rather heartless with no feelings at all.. I think the author is rather strange himself in saying "Meursault is the only Christ we deserve"?? something is seriously worng with his way of thinking. Absolute truth is more important than a peaceful world without murders?

I understand your point of view. However, how can a "peaceful world without murders" be achieved without truth. Anyhow, you missed an important point in the story. How can Meursault have any "feelings" if he's surrounded by the worlds hypocrisy. Remember, he was sentenced based on his past actions, not on the actual murder. I still think The Stranger is an awesome book, you have to set your mind to see the "darkness" in everyone to really appreciate and understand The Stranger. That's just my opinion.

If you are talking about Camus' 'Outsider' then I have read the book. It is mostly written in 1942, the year hit by second world war. And it was expressing the the concept of absurdity in our existence. This was called existentialism later. But in real it was absurdity of life which was expressed by Camus using a character of so,called non-emotional but in real emotional with his own concern. Even he has a cynic element in his human nature so some time becomes dull towards every thing, some time becomes aware about out side activities by sounds and thoughts (when court case is running), or some time just in passion to destroy some thing led him to kill! This is novel based on a concept of absurdity of character whose life has reactions and dullness and passionate aggressive elements become priority to express himself. But such thing leads him to kill and then self destruction! The time, period at least indicates that the overall situation was really odd for intellectuals who were sensitive and emotional. The hypocrisy of society and living standards were affecting genuine persons by suppressing them. And the hero of this novel was such a person who tried to live by his own way and promotes destruction! This was inspirational because it was providing a sense of understanding to avoid the wrong ideology and escapism. The situation was exposing the confused character and its wrong interpretations regarding the life. Well there is possibility to get negative things also from this kind of novel!
