Will you work for a job that you don't like just to make money?

I have a very timely question. Let's say that that your current job now is your dream career, but the pay is just fit for the daily needs. Then, a chance came to work that somehow will almost double your pay. This time, you can save some for the future. However, you don't like that job although you don't really hate it. It's like starting a new career. In this time of recession, what will you do? Will you bother to sacrifice your happiness? Are you willing to work for a job that you don't like just to make money?

So coincidentally, I was just thinking of this question this morning. No, I would not take up the job. What is more important to me is I must be happy with my job. It would be hard to survive the day if I do not like the job and yet I need to stay on just for the money. What if you are being abused at the job place. Making money is not the main thing in life.

If the money is very very attractive - like 6 figures, then perhaps. There are times that you have to do things, even when you don't like them because you have to. One of these things for me are household chores. Lol.,. and since we are in an economic recession, we have to be practical. But if the money is just a few pesos more, then I would rather stay home and do something productive. Happy mylotting.

Hello fatherblogger! It's not that easy to do something we do not enjoy. Sometimes we would choose a job we love over one that is high-paying but we do not enjoy. But then again, we should also consider people who depend on us. If we think about having to save for our future, then maybe we could do a job we do not like for the money. It does not have to last long though. Once we have earned enough money then maybe we could get off it and start a business or something like that. I know of some Filipinos who work abroad even if they would rather be with their family here in the Philippines. They stay there for a couple of years while brushing off homesickness. They stay there even if they are being discriminated against. What for? To ensure good quality of life for their family. But they aim to come back home and look for another job or start a business and stay here for good. Personally, I have been a not-so-high-paying job for almost 10 years now. But I do something I truly love and enjoy. I augment my salary with some businesses which I am also happy about. Well, if I could have the best of both worlds, why not?

I would say that depends on a lot of conditions. First, how eager I need money, if I do not worry about money, even my payment is just fit for the daily needs, I prefer to do what I like most. If I'm badly in deed of money to survive my life, I will choose high payment. Second, how much I don't like the high pay job. There is some degree or measurement for a job that you like or dislike, for example, someone hire me to kill people, I can get very well paid, even one year work can satisfy the need of all my life, I will not do that, definitely. Then what age I am and how long I need to do the job. If I am young, I may do a highly paid job that I don't like, just for saving money, when time is okay I can shift to the job I like. If I were very old and don't have more time to work, I may just do whatever I like. There are many things that effect your choice, hope you can find your way!

Nice insights. However of course, I am only referring the legal ones, or don't hurt others.

no newer, when you work you need satisfaction and when there is no job satisfaction you wont feel like working and nobody would like to work for something that you dont enjoy doing.

My current job is not my dream career, but it is not working for make money only either. I think my current job has taught me many things, it is my first job, and my manager & supervisor all kind and easy to work with, I made many friends there. but if I have a chance to touch other careers, I will have a try. Life can not always be the same, I think.

I don't think there are many of us that have the luxury of doing work that we love and getting paid for it. Times have always been tough for me. Throughout my life there have been several periods where I was out of work and had trouble finding a job. Sometimes you have to take what you can get. In some jobs you can have a good attitude and enjoy your work but there will usually be something or more likely some one that brings you down. This has been what it was like for me. I have had some horrid bosses and supervisors. Sometimes the price you pay for having a job, even a bad one , can be very high. You can lose not just your happiness but your self respect as well.

No I will not, I wouldn't . If I really hated the job , then everyday I would hate kife. I rather just kill myself than live doing something I hate for the next 20 years. what is the point? there are other things I can do.

hmm this is indeed a tough question. i've met with this dilemma more than ten years ago. i was about to start my current job when a friend offered me double the salary to work as a sales person. i thought over it but i realise i really don't like sales work. my current job may not be my dream job, but sales has never been in my career radar. in the end i turned the offer down and started in my current job. though the pay is not excellent, i've managed to scrimp and save a bit for emergency use.

If ever I really have this obligations to pay and there is no other solution, then I would go for the high paying job even if I do not like it. But if ever there are none, I would just enjoy my current job or the job that I like. There is quite a difference in working for something that you really love rather than working simply because of the money.

If I have a job that I love and pays for all my needs I will stay there. That's just me.

I'm guessing I would do it if I needed to. I need to right now and I am. I'm not making a lot but I would be making a lot less if I wasn't where I am right now. I hate sitting at a desk doing nothing all day. If my dream career was where I was though and I was making enough to live comfortably, then no, I would probbly not change jobs just for the money. Enjoying my job is worth a lot of money to me.

It depends on how much I really need the money. If I am making enough money in the job I like to life comfortably, not in luxury, just enough that I don't have to worry about how I am going to pay the bills and such, then I would benefit more to just stay with my current job. However, if I need the money I would go to the job I dont like because it, I should think, would be less stressful. I don't think that going into a job I don't like would necessarily sacrifice my happiness. This question is actually quite vague. The amount you are making originally really determines the actual situation. "Just fit for the daily needs" could mean a lot of different things. It could mean that you are living comfortably or it could mean paycheck to paycheck which is significantly different.

When you work at something you love, you never work a day in your life; when you work at something you hate, you never have a good day. I would stay with something I love and get a second job to bring in extra money. After sixty-one years and working forty-three of them, I can say with all honesty money is never worth misery. Working for some clown who rules by destroying his people through screaming, deriding, cursing or making them feel worthless is never worth a bigger paycheck either. Been there and left, never looking back. Life is too short to work for a bully.

It is true that happiness and contentment should be highly considered. However, I believe that a work, whether you like it or not to begin with, will sink in to your daily life eventually and most probably, this will cause you to like it soon if not love it. I also don't like my current job although I love the position title per se (not the tasks) but gradually, I realized it's not that bad after all. Look at the bright side. What are the advantages? What are the things you deem acceptable and fun with that job? You see, there is a chance that your judgement towards that job is only biased because you are thinking against it in the first place. Always remember that even the oddest, hardest and most toilsome jobs have something to begin liking it. Just look for it. Pretend you are new with the nature of the job so your judgement will also start from zero. No biases. No predicaments. Just pure raw analysis of. Good luck.

I think I will take the job if the salary is really attractive. I will work for about 2 or 3 years and then quit. At present, money means a lot to me. when I have enough money I can restart my favorite carrer without taking too much consideration about the econemy problem.
