Okay, I'm working on a story, and I pretty much know everything I'm doing with it...but there is still one thing I'm not sure about. Okay...the dog in my story is going to die (sorry!!!!) and there are two options that I have worked out how it could happen. I won't go into details about the whole scene; but the dog is either going to get shot and live a little while afterwards, or he is going to get his neck broken and be dead instantly. It's all awful I know! But I need to know from a completely creative/fiction P.O.V, which way do you think would be best? If you were reading a story and the dog is killed off, which would make more sense/work better for you? If you think you need to know a little more about the story let me know and I'll answer! If it'll help me get good honest answers And for the record--I LOVE dogs and never want to see any real dog get hurt! And I always cry when the fictional ones die! lol

Oh, could you please end it happy. I don't want any dog die even in a fictional story.I really love dog and for me they are gifts from God. They are loving creature. Please don't let my tears fall.

Wow, can't you kill one of the characters instead??? (haa ha). How important is it to your story to go into that detail? What about dancing around it? Get the emotional aspect and the mood without really touching on the 'what happened and how much he suffered' aspect. Is the POV from the person doing the deed or someone watching? Is this a story or a novel?

Well if it isn't sad enough, then get more emotion in there and NOT more descirption of the dog's suffering. Maybe one of the characters can flashback to a touching moment shared between him/her and the dog. WHY DOES THE DOG HAVE TO DIE? Is it pivotal to the story??? I guess it is since you want it to be even sadder. Just don't overdo it to where it feels more contrived. So what are you doing with this story next? Gonna publish it? Are you working on an anthology?

LOL! That is exactly what my sister would say :P Kill the person not the dog! lol. I'm actually almost done writing it, and it isn't very long...so it'll probably end up being my longest short story so far. :D I think I defeniatly worked in more of the peoples emotional pain then the dogs physical pain..but I still don't think I made it sad enough :P I need to work on it a bit more.

it seems to be mandatory in the novel, that the dog has to die but both the ways sound bad to me.if it is very essential, shoot and be done with it.

well killing a dog never sounds good! Hehe...but it does add to the story and makes the dog more of a hero. Thanks for your input!

They both sound horrible. I could not write a story like that.

well i'm not doing a great job with the emotional side of it! i can't imagine why, I think it's incredibly sad when dogs die! I just need to work on it a little more.

well, if he gets shot, then the protagonist in the story can say all kinds of stuff that might not be said to the dog, like "your a hero, thank you" type stuff, that s/he might not share with another human - if they are around.
