I beleive people can be nice without being paranoid about political correctness... When my girl friend & I were in a mall, I saw a guy in a distance that I knew... I said to my girl friend, "See that black guy? I know him!!!" I don't think I was wrong in saying that just because I didn't refer to him as "african american person"... One of my friend actually got mad at me for saying exactly that, "african american"... He said, "Do I have an accent or something?" I said, "No"... He told me he was born in Florida & never in his life been to Africa & didn't understand why I was pegging him as an "African" american... He told me he was an "American"...

Lol... That was exactly his point... Do you think if people from America moved to Africa for whatever the reason, research, doctors, teachers, etc., they're considered over there as "American African"? If a Korean person was born here & moves to India, do you think they're considered, "Korean American Indian"? Enough with EXCESSIVE political correctness...

That just shows you how out of control the whole "political correct" situation is when stuff like that happens. That poor lady - I couldn't even imagine being that paranoid but then again, do you blame her? One never knows what word or expression is suddenly going to be NOT PC because, like I said, the whole situation is out of control. For me, I'm pretty thick-skinned and you have to say something pretty outrageous to offend me so I don't care what others say. If anything, I am constantly fighting the urge to poke fun at people when they use what I consider to be an extra ridiculous version of a PC word. However, in my work, I must be very careful in my choice of language so, unfortunately, I must try to be as PC as I can in my own speech. I do have my limits though. If I think the PC-version of a word is more ridiculous than the original word was offensive, I'll try not to say either word. I'll work my way around the situation, verbally, until I get my point across. Unfortunately, that doesn't always work and I end up having to bow down to the PC gods and say their stupid word and at that point, it's usually through gritted teeth........
