Metal Detectors and Treasure Hunting

I was just watching something on television (which doesn't really have anything to do with what I'm asking but it did give me this question). But for a long time now I've wanted to buy a metal detector and go treasure hunting, of sorts. Would I epect to find millions or gold or whatever, of course not. But getting a metal detector and going out searching for things, like in my backyard and maybe at beaches, is something I've been wanting to try for fun for a long time. Has anyone here tried anything like this? Did you find anything interesting or funny or whatever?
