My nephew just dropped a small porcelain vase, and got a shout from his mother on being clumsy and having butter fingers. Well, this is not the first time so i guess he does. Are you clumsy at holding on to objects ? and do you find them easily slipping out of your hands?

Poor boy. I think the mother should check whether he's injured first before saying anything. Sometimes even adult make mistake like that. I don't think I have butter fingers but more like knocking things over. There's not once in a day that I don't accidentally hit something (with my feet, not something else)

No he was not injured, just a little shocked and scared. I've knocked over a few things sometime too. Thanks

Sometimes I am being clumsy but sometimes I am not. The good thing is when the thing slips from my hand I can catch it.

I got a firm grip on everything Alok. My wife compensates that very well by dropping things at regular intervals at the kitchen.I bear with all the droppings and cling clangs patiently for the ultimate bliss. The wonderful food she makes.

Generally speaking, no I'm not clumsy at all when it comes to holding things, but I've definitely noticed a "universal equation" that seems to influence my life in this regard quite heavily. The equation? My chances of dropping something increases by 5X for each mental uttering of the words "For God's sake, DON'T drop it!" in my mind!

And how does the muliplication factor change with the pitch of the voice ? Getting too concious about holding on too things makes me a little nervous as well. The last thing i need is someone to remind me about the cost, sentimental value.... Thanks James

The voice is silent actually, and I'm yet to experiment on the pitch front. Maybe I should, just to see if it reduces the 5X angle?

Poor boy... Yes sometimes more than others, there are times that get in a rampage of destroying every delicate thing I touch, that I have stop doing anything that involves manipulating. Fortunately is not all the time just occasionally.

My 2 year old nephew hits and breaks everything he comes across. And if he doesn't get enough of breaking stuffs around he would tear whatever comes on his way. My sister is having terrible time making him civilized but then that's other point of discussion. One day when my brother in law was sneakily placing the expensive dinner set out of his reach, he found to his utter amazement that the little one is standing right behind holding two of my sister’s favorite glasses. In his sweetest yet costliest endeavor to help his uncle!! He stealthily stood down, in a most ignorant gesture, in case my nephew gets distracted and let loose those glasses. Then he slowly took them from him and said thanks. And if you ask me, I used to be butter fingered and my mother used to fear that she might lose her precious possessions to my cleanliness bouts. But now, I have grown up out of it. Even though I was never careless, in fact it was always my extra careful gesture that had cost me much precious stuff. Now, I can’t remember when I last broke anything! Let me keep my fingers crossed for you never know..

Ok. Fingers are crossed. Nothing will break. That's a very sweet and nice incident you have shared regarding your nephew Mimpi. Thanks for it. How can one help but smile at a gesture of an innocent child wanting to help out in a manner like this. In most cases delicate things break, but such incidents happen when children are doing things with the right intentions. I remember breaking a few of my Mom's expensive dinner plates when i was a kid. But then it was an attempt to clear the table and help her. She scowled allright, but when she realised what i was doing she mellowed down, advising me to leave it for her to do.

I try to be as careful as possible, while getting hold of delicate objects. However, mishaps happens when our minds get diverted to some other activities. We need to concentrate on one activity, if we do not want these kinds of mishaps to happen. I can say that I am not butter fingered.

That is good Deepak. A lot of accidents happen when our mind is elsewhere. Thanks

I am not at all clumsy. But my daughter has butter fingers because she has ended up breaking a lot of my crockery these past few years. In fact now when anything is found broken in the house I know it is her fault only.

I can think of any family members of mine being clumsy, but I think I can be clumsy sometimes. I haven't break a lot of stuffs in the house, just some I guess, lol! But I bang my elbow a lot of times and I don't seems to have a good balance when walking and I reckon it is a part of being clumsy.
