How many people can one cow feed?

My husband and I went to go eat some NY strip steak this weekend , when he asked me if I knew how many people one cow can feed. We then also started discussing how many get slaughtered for us people to consume. Anyone out there know some numbers? I just think it's astounding how many cows,pigs and chicken along with other animals we kill for our consumption.

i hate to eat cows and pigs .but i will eat chicken and sometimes feel that why i eat chicken also.
when i see beef meat and other meats in any shops ,i feel dipress because why we are harming all the animals ,because of filling our stomachs.
i think to change to vegeratian ,then there will be no harm to any animals.
