I can't load Adobe on my laptop. WHY?

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop. When I bought it, who ever had it before me, for some reason has uninstalled Adobe. And this computer will not load it. Is there one of my settings off or what? When I try to load it, it goes to about about 25% and then just stops, with a resume button to click on, I click on the resume, it will start all over again, and just does the same thing. I have never had a problem loading Adobe. What the heck am I doing wrong?
