Being a colony of a powerful country just like the US may result to a better living condition and better government institutions too. I may go for the country to be colonized by the USA just for those reasons. However, what's the point of having a better life if we will be treated second class citizens by the colonizer? What' being a dollar earner if we can not make decisions on how to run our public affairs? Being an independent nation is not all a matter of being wealthy and powerful. It is more of having your own identity and leaving a good mark in this world.

I don't get your point of being colonized and "still be a first class filipino in your heart your mind your culture". Yes, you will still be a Filipino but not as a nationality because you will now belong to the US. You let yourself subjugated by a more powerful nationality and that's what our forefathers have fought against. You can no longer line yourself with Indonesians or Malaysians or Zimbabweans because you automatically become a sub-culture of America. And what country are you talking about if you are now colonized? Technically, you no longer have one because a colony is never a country.

being a filipino is way of living, you live it no matter who is on charge of that particular country, spaniards took over the philippines but people back then considered themselves filipino how about ofw's who became citizens that never go back his or her own country that person would remain a filipino no matter what even if the country itself is not there. and as i said you can leave your mark in this world individually the world knows and the world would recognize that you are a filipino and even if it does not recognize you as a filipino, you yourself should know and believe that you are a filipino.

yes you may be treated as second class citizens as of the moment but you would still be a first class filipino in your heart your mind your culture, and if you would say that, just look at african americans they used to beslaves and now an african american is the! president of the united states for me its not just for a better living i strongly believe that nobody can take your nationality away from you it is from within and if you love your country it would show and i also think you should have your identity as an individual not just a filipino in general.

yea im all for it! then we can all become american citizens and then more business would be heading this way. similarly it wont be hassle for our ofw's to go to the united states and work. we will still be filipinos eventhough we'll be waiving an american flag. haha

No problem with me. Actually i believe that our destiny resides in our people character and not on the colonizer. I disagree that getting the same wages as in the US would be good for us. This would simply mean that the cost of living would go up and it does not pose any advantage. Also, our being colonized by Americans has nothing to do with investments or business. That argument is totally off if you consider Guam. Is it as industrially advance as Malaysia. I think the economy if Guam is not far better than the Philippines either. It is the existing manpower skillsets, natural resources, political and business climate that dictate investments. Having said that, given the current woes of the US, i don't think that now is the right time to be colonized by them. We would simply have a share of their enormous financial problems.

true but you have to consider the fact that america can and always gets back on its feet and it is fact that they are the single most dominant country during the last few decades if they would have their woe and we share a piece a of it why not then when they do get back on the saddle and sort out everything we tag along. and if we have a share of their financial problems they would have the whole financial problem of our country with them in the process right?

No, I don't like for our country to be colonized by other countries, worst for USA. My God!our heroes and ancestors fought hard for our independence because they knew first hand how hard it was to be colonized by powerful countries. For people who agree to be colonized, they don't know maybe what is the meaning of "colony".
