Who out there makes there own pizza - from scratch? We make them probably once a week in my house...base and all. My kids love making their own little pizzas and usually make a smiley face on them with olives, capsicum, mushrooms and ham, bacon or salami with cheese on top! We put all sorts of things on them, but my personal favourites are capsicum, salami, chicken or bacon, baby spinach, feta cheese, avocado, bocconcini cheese, sundried tomatos, prawns, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese - any combination of those is fantastic! I went to a friends house for a cooking party the other day & the host made a pizza all in one container - made the base in it and pressed it out then put all the toppings on & cooked it on the stove top....it was the best pizza I've had in ages! I've got one of the roasting dishes from the party (I got it when I had my own party months ago) and I will be making the pizzas in it from now on! What do you like on your pizzas & how do you make the bases?

I make my own pizzas quite alot. Sometimes when i am pushed for time i just use pre-made bases and I just add my desired toppings. When i really have time i make the dough from scratch, with a recipe I found on the internet, it takes quite alot of time and the room has to be warm (for the yeast to work).

Yes the dough can take quite some time - I actually use my bread maker to mix and rise the dough for me and it take an hour and a half, then I roll it out and put my toppings on. Works out to around 2 hours for us to be eating our pizzas.

I do make my own little pizzas at home sometimes but I use pita bread for the base, and I prefer to use ordinary tomato sauce as I like it better than the italian sauce they usually use for pizza...I like the little pita bread as it is just the right size for a meal for me....

Pita bread is great for a pizza base, we have used that a lot too but lately we make our own bases as I have 2 sons and a husband & they eat a lot! LOL! My boys are only 2 and 3 but they eat a whole little pizza themselves - expecially when they make their own! I make my own sauce to put on the pizza with tomato and herbs.

I do make my own pizzas at times. Once I won a pizza oven from a grocery store draw and used it a lot. I don't have it any more :( By the way, what is capsicum, I don't think I've heard of it before? Sometimes I use our breadmaker to make the pizza dough in, other times I'll use the mix dough kind you can buy and other times, we use tortillas or wraps as the base for the pizza. We try all kinds of variations. There is even a burger pizza recipe in my diabetic cookbook and you use lean ground beef as the crust and don't make dough at all. Actually, it tastes quite good. Haven't made it in a long time, maybe it's time I do.

Wow, I would love to have a pizza oven...what a pity you don't have it anymore! Capsicum is what we Aussies call a bell pepper. The burger pizza recipe sounds yummy, I would like to try that!

I enjoy making my own pizza. I buy Martha White self-rising pizza dough for the crust. I make my own pizza sauce from scratch using oregano, garlic salt and other spices in canned tomato sauce. The best part about homemade pizza is cutting and using fresh meats. Slicing your own pepperoni provides a much bolder flavor than using pre-sliced meat. I like to buy a stick of pepperoni and a summer or kielbasa sausage and dicing them up for use as toppings. The cheese is best fresh grated also, but at this point I usually get a little lazy and buy the shredded cheese in a bag. The key to making a great homemade pizza is not to overload it with toppings or cheese. The first time I made my own I used too much cheese and it bunched up in the middle of the pie, leaving the edges bare. I learned quickly to not let meats overlap and to go lightly on ingredients until I mastered the exact technique.

I totally agree with you, you have to slice your own meat & grate your own cheese - the flavour is sooo much better! Overloading is a big problem to as the base won't cook properly so we always spread the toppings out to the edges. I make my own tomato sauce to spread on the pizzas too...so much better than using tomato paste or something like that! Thanks for your response

It is too complex to do for me.I'd rather than go and buy one for myself.

Ah but it is so worth the effort for the flavour!
