When you say lightyears, do you refer to distance or does it refer to time. What far or how long is a lightyear?

it would depend on what I'm talking about when I use the word...sometimes I'm refering to distance and sometimes I'm refering to time....

It is the "Distance" , not the time travelled by light in one year . Statistically , this is Speed of light of 299,792,458 m/s Multiplied by Julian year of exactly 365.25 day This gives : # exactly 9,460,730,472,580.8 km (about 10 Pm) # about 5,878,630,000,000 miles # about 63,241.1 astronomical units More on : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light-year
