Nah! I didn't have kids while in the Army! I served from 1981 until 1984 from Ft. Jackson for Basic Training, then on to Ft. Huachuca (for Advanced Intensive Training) for Military Intelligence Traing (96B - Intelligence Analyst) (yes, I know, military intelligence is a contradiction of terms!) then to Bamberg, Germany. What a culture shock when I went to Ft. Jackson! I'm from Pennsylvania and not used to eating Southern cooking. I didn't even know what grits were, but eat them I did or go hungry. I actually grew to like them if I put sugar and milk on them! We learned to use our M-16's and Heavens to Betsy, I never enjoyed anything quite so much as being on the firing range!! Ft. Huachuca was known as the "party post" and boy did we party as much as possible. It's a wonder we never got into any trouble. I sure loved it there. That's where I met and married my husband of 19 years. We only knew each other for two weeks before gettin' hitched! Germany was AWESOME!!! The food was unbelievable, the older folks loved us (the youger ones did not) and it was dirt cheap to live there at that time to live there and buy things on the German market. Aaaah! I can just taste a German pastry right now or a German beer. Germans know how to live. I wouldn't have traded that experience for just about anything in the world! I got pregnant and decided I would rather be at home with my husband to have our son than be in Germany by myself, so I left Germany and came home. I brought many souvenirs with me. A few got broken on the trip here, tho. After recovering from the birth of our son, I worked secretarial jobs until I got pregnant again with our daughter and after that started working at law firms. I worked for three firms for a total of 13 years. After my husband died, I started having seizures and DMV took my license to drive away, so I started working at Hardee's which was within walking distance. Shotly after that, I was diagnosed with emphysema (among other things) and went on disability. I miss working and get really bored; especially not being able to drive. That's the story of where I have worked. If you were in the military, I'd love to hear from you. Let's swap stories, ok?

i used to believe all young people (i was 24) should do a stint in the military because it brought such discipline and the ability to learn to work as a team together, but while i certainly support our troops in Iran and Afganistan, i DO NOT support the reason why we are there, so my feelings have changed. wait until the "second vietnam" is done and over with before joining up!

It's not everyday that I find someone who when to AIT in Ft Huachuca. I, too, went there and trained to be 35M (HUMINT Collector). How much did you like being an Analyst?
